MPC 2500 audio out ?

Ok so I just bought 2500 off of eBay after owning a 1000 for years. I plugged it in and started running it exactly in place where the 1000 was. I noticed that the drums and samples weren't holding up with the other external gear. So I tested the 2500 and 1000 side by side. The 1000 seemed fuller and louder in general. To make this test even I used the same sample on both units and tested with the same out. Is this possible or do I have a sketchy unit. Has anyone tried this?

Boosted the 2500 to -6db. Seems to help. But when both are on -12 the 1000 is giving me much more. Is this normal?
