JJOS Install Hell "wrong card"

Just picked up a used 2500 running the Akai OS.

It came with a 2gb card, but not the stock one with the Akai OS. Everything was fine until I decided to install the JJOS free version. Thinking that was a mistake.

Downloaded from the mpc2500 specific -jj site (for mac users)...

Before this I formatted the memory card within the MPC (ms-dos Fat32 I guess), then used the USB out on the MPC to load the JJOS .bin file from my Desktop to the CF card.

Upon restarting the MPC (after properly ejecting the disk from my mac (OSX Mav), it goes to the:

MPC 2500 New OS
"wrong card"

...screen (I'm assuming a corrupted download from the JJOS site).

Ended up driving to a friends house with a card reader (which I was able to borrow)... and reformatted the CF card on my Mac (since I can't get into the MPC to reformat there), then put THE NEWEST AKAI OS on the card.

Unfortunately I won't have access to my MPC until tomorrow. I am wondering if I'm following proper procedure here (loading the Akai OS instead of JJOS), and what to do once I get the card back in front of the MPC.

Parts of this have been covered in other threads I know but having Mavericks and no access to the Akai card, I'm concerned I may have just screwed up royally.

Now wondering if the free JJOS is even worth it.

I spoke to a Pasadena service center after a frustrating call to akai CS.

They wondered if the corrupted file may have caused a motherboard issue.

off to Best Buy to get a 8gb San Disk-- will try putting just the 2.14 bin file on their and see how it goes. My pins looks fine.

Okay so I'm really lucky. Got it to work using a 128mb Fuji card that I had been unable to reformat on my mac. Went out and bought a high end card reader from a camera store ([pro]master brand) and was able to format
If you are in a situation like me... using a mac, go to friends house or dust off the PC and use that to format the disk. I recall back in my mpc1000 days having a similar issue and after days of whining, my friend suggested I use his Acer, which solved the issue.

Can't say if its the PC, the card, the better card reader, or both, but I recommend all of it. Will wait awhile before going down the JJ path again.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm having a very similar issue. Stuck in a reboot loop and getting the wrong card message with Window+Power on. Has anyone had any success with non-Akai cards being accepted? Ordered a 2GB card, hopefully formatting it into FAT16 (as opposed to 32) will do the trick

Wow... slandering JJOS eh...? "JJOS Install Hell" and the substance of my post has nothing to do with the mystery man or his software, it was me struggling to install the software and an issue of memory cards and Mac vs. PC formatting. I know quite well how to format a memory card... the reason I posted was precisely because I followed the instructions and was getting nowhere. Staying away from JJOS was a function of me purchasing a 2500 and being unable to use it to create music for the first few weeks-- not a comment on the merits of the software itself.


To the last poster, the way I solved the issue was formatting a 2gb (or under) card (haven't tried with a larger one for installing software) on an older Windows-based computer as opposed to my Mac which is late-2013, 64-bit architecture. Hopefully you've gotten past it by now and are all up and running. PM me if you need any help or suggestions for your situation in particular.
