How to assign internal fx send to qlink slider in jjosxl

Hi,

I would like to use a qlink to control the filter-resonance and send level of an internal effect, because they are not part of the standard qlink assignment menu, I want to use midi cc to achieve this.

To do this I setup the slider to send cc 71 out output 1A, then I connect a midi cable from mpc midi out and loop it back into the mpc to midi in 1.

Then I start to get into trouble. Because while playing a sequence, the pads are also sending out midi data, and now those notes are recieved by the input also, and get doubled.

So here is my question:

- What is the best way to control internal midi cc's by the qlink?

You can't route like that, map extrenal controller for CCs.

My experience is somewhat different.

I can control i.e. the filter resonance just fine, with the qlink sending midi cc, via the mpc midi out to mpc midi in.

The problem is that my pads are also sending midi note data, the same route as the midi from the qlink does, which causes the notes in my sequence to be triggered twice.

I need the sequence to stop sending midi notes to the output, a midi filter would fix the problem. If I transpose the midi notes to an octave higher, the sounds don't get triggered anymore, works ok, but is an ugly solution in my opinion.

I just wanted to know if there is a more elegant solution.

Dude, you connected MIDI out to in... having some of things work, but it's not a proper way of doing it. That's why I said you can't route like that (without other issues...)

Buying an extra midi controller, while having local controlls that send midi cc, doesn't sound as a proper solution either.

They (q-links with cc out )are more dedicated to control external device, now you want to go shortcut.. that does not exists here.

Some params can be controlled from external device,
q-links have option to control extrenal gear.

Those two functions are not linked.

If you have some software you can even use virtual knob for this task.

There is really a load of flexibility when using controller with jjos2xl vs trying to do everything on mpc. Look into BCR 2000, this is affordable controller that fits jjos2xl perfectly.

I don't see any difference in controlling an 'external' device, or the mpc sample module that happens to be in the same box as the controller, I'm not creating a midi loop or so.

I'll just be trying a little more, I just would like to control the filter resonance en send level with the qlinks, I don't mind if it's by midi-cc, I just thought it would be a nice workaround.

If I have any news on the subject, I'll post it here, thanks.

You might try OS3, it's free for 2xl users, and it has some MIDI filter, but some things are gone.

SPDK - you're on the right track, this is possible (I've done it) - you want to set up the MPC as multi-timbral, turn soft thru off and send your CCs out on CH 16 (you can't have a program on track 16 when set up this way or it will trigger, but the effect parameters will still work.

He wants to crank up resonance with q-link on mpc program, that's a problem, not this^^^

Thanks DShook, you helped me out with the empty control track, that's exactly what I was looking for!

Global settings
- Turn Multi timbre on and turn other settings off or 0

Qlink settings
- Set up link to send midi cc to ie 74 (cutoff of filter 1).

Control track
- Choose an empty track to send the midi cc from, this way you don't send any other midi data out and don't get midi loops.
- The midi channel on the empty track corresponds with the track number it's gonna control on the mpc. So set the number to 1a to control track 1, or 5a to control track 5, -hence you can only control the first 16 tracks of a sequence.

Target track
- On the track you want to control the filter of, choose a filter and turn the cutoff frequency down to zero, otherwise you won't hear any difference.
- Turn midi out channel to off.

Now play the sequence, make the control track active and use the qlink to control the filter. Works nice.

Nice you sort this out if it works for you, but this way creates MIDI loops with CCs recorded on track 1 when loop is ON and it doubles in first recording on 16 (with different positions.. ) If you're overdubbing with filter cut in one pass, erase track 16, and move on - than this workaround will do. When sequence loops, it creates mess on destination track - unless you are not recording this.

Your right, but I don't record midi cc's and my active track is empty.

I couldn't find a proper answer on my specific question, so I thought it would be nice to write down the steps for other people who want to achieve the same. But now I realise that probably not many people want to use the mpc like this.
