MPC2500 Maximum Sequence note capacity...

I just read the specs for MPC2500 and I noticed that it has a 100,000 sequencer note capacity vs. MPC2000xl's 300,000...That's 1/3 of the capacity...I know that I will probably never go over 100,000 notes per song...but it just didn't feel good to see that there are aspects of the MPC2500 that is actually a downgrade from the 2000xl...

Unless you are going to be doing very long live sets uninterrupted 100,000 notes is more than enough. Most MPC owners use the machine in their studio. The 2500 was designed with those buyers in mind.

Just for conversation....the MPC 3000 has a 75,000 note capacity.

Also for conversation- with the MPC2000XL you can only use up to a 50,000 note capacity per sequence.

In a live situation where you have all of the sequences loaded, it is very possible to max that out. If you use external midi gear and sequence a lot of knob automation it makes this much easier to max out. I also cannot figure out why they put this limitation on. More ram should = more capacity of all sorts. Guess not. Average user will not notice this, they think: more ram and usb, must be better on all levels. Depends on what you use it for.

The 2k can only load 256 samples at a time. I have live kits that use every single one of these slots (when you don't rely on audio loops, easy to do). I thought I remember reading the 1k did not have that limitation (so I would guess the 2500 as well). Is there an official count on how many samples can be addressed in RAM?

If this is an issue for you, you can always get an MPC 4000.

But I don't think it will be an issue..even for live use. Catz have been using MPCs live forever it seems. So if they can do it..you should be able to do the same.

Yeah, people have been using them live for years... but those DID have 3x the capacity. Its a feature that would keep a select few from wanting to make the upgrade. If you are just banging out pads, its unlikely you would ever hit it. But when you bring a full rig of synths with tons of midi automation, you run out quick. I'm sure that applies to .3% of its users. But I already know if I upgrade, it would be to 4k

Not completely true. The MPC 60, 3000, and 2000 do not have 3x the capacity.......so lets make this .03% of MPC users that this may apply to

Good point, I was referring to the XL to follow the thread, but that probably moves it down to .01%

I am seeing a lot of people use the 1k for live now, so it must be enough for them.
