Scratch Magazine: MPC 2500 Lab Gear Review

Still waiting for the OS release

But as I wait...just picked up the latest Scratch Magazine with the Lab Gear review of the MPC 2500. They gave it an OK review. However, the filters and effects didn't fair well in the review.

It did appear that the reviewer rushed to write the review instead of actually reading the manual and rolling up his/her sleeves to really check what the MPC 2500 can do. The reviewer claims that that the shift timing has been removed when we all know that it has been moved to another location

Besides the MPC 2500...there are some decent articles with Rza and Mannie fresh..although, the magazine should have more tips/tricks for producers/beat makers,Djs.........

You do know that Toshirô Mifune who played Lord Toranaga in the Shogun Mini-series was a hermaphradite? Of course you did.....that's why you took the name. Due to this genetic defect..he/she never considered himself/herself as being homosexual so he/she got down for whatever. Yeah back to the topic...............

Think about it. How much time did they really have to go over the 2500. No it's not perfect but if the the reviewer really did his hands on homework the review would have been alot better than it was. I dont believe they have mich time to do so after all there is a deadline to get the mag out on time. None the less it's no skn off our brow.
No discredit to Scratch Magazine. It's the only mag we have that's on our level if your into hip hop. It still has a lot of growing to do but it has gotten better. The mag is dope!

Ummm...I can't agree with the first statement at all. It has no validity. How is it that monthly mags like Keyboard, Remix, FM, CM, EM, and others have the time to do lengthy, in depth gear reviews and a bi-monthly mag doesn't? To me, that's been one big downfall since the beginning, and it'll only get worse now that the mag's focus has changed (read the editor's page from last issue for more info on that). I think they felt they had to change because Remix has started having at least one Hip Hop/Urban producer in each issue, and they do the articles very well.

I like Scratch, and I've bought every issue. And as long as they keep the producer to artist ratio at at least 60/40, and keep up with the good producer related articles, I'll keep buying. However, if I want real gear reviews and real technical talk with producers, I'll read one of the other mags. Scratch is good, though. It's like an expanded version of the old "So You Wanna Be a Producer" articles from Rap Pages mixed with XXL.

Yeah your right. I guess thier reviews just svck. For such a good mag I guess I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. After all I DO feel like the review could have been way better than it was.

Honestly? I think they don't think they can keep their intended audience's interest with a 4 page review. I believe that's what's influencing the short, "capsule" reviews. I mean, the AWS900 is an indepth machine, and while SOS took pages and pages to give it a once over, Scratch gave it a page. What I did like about the Scratch review is that they had a working pro give their opinion on it. I've said it before on other forums, and I'll say it again: Scratch can set themselves apart just by offering up pro opinions more often. Boom, a new keyboard drops, and they give it to Just Blaze or Scott Storch for a week. Or a new pre comes out and they give it to Ken Duro or Young Guru for a bit. That one page then becomes something totally different. A guy who is going to really send it through the paces is more valuable than a normal review. The Jim Jones, Kwame, and Just articles where they went over gear is proof to me that it can work. Split in half even. Let the staff do the technical part, and the pro do the practical part.

Why did they say the Q-Link slides send midi CC data. That isn't even an assumption one can derive from the manual. They just made that up.
