a bit extreme ain't it ?

What? That the paint rubs off after 3 months already? Believe me, i have a soft thumb

Or giving it back for several such reasons? I'll definitely wait for a new OS, and if it works flawlessly after that, that's ok then. But at the present stage, there are too many non-working features, i think any retailer would have to take it back if you list only half of the problems the machine has.

Cheers,
Stilo.

The problems that some have reported about saving work and not being able to load it....I have not experienced. But I am not saying that it is there. It could be a bug or it could be operator error.

As far as the the metal plate underneath the MPC...if you remove it, it doesn't rattle much or any at all.

Paint rubbing off  That's funny. Your using the hell out of that MPC if that is happening. Eventually, this happens with all MPCs if you are using it the way your are. It has knobs you can turn. You must have some big azz fingers if you can't turn the knob without rubbing off the letters

Too many non-working features may be correct...but many of these were reported here in the forums before the MPC 2500 was widely available. I am not defending Akai..but as a consumer, I make informed purchases. Many of you should have done your research before purchasing (I did). The OS will be here soom. We just have to sit and wait...or we can rant/curse and get every thread locked in the forum. Its all good both ways.

And leave it open underneath? :o

I ain't really, believe me. That's why i'm disappointed in this at all, this really shouldn't happen after 3 months...

As I said, i'm well aware that such a machine can't be perfect from the start. At least the manufacturer has a possibility to improve the product and give that improvement to the customer via a new OS, without him having to buy a new machine. And i'm patiently waiting for that as well

And if I understood right, you were one of the first to get your hands on a 2500...so where did you get info about bugs then? :D

So are you saying that you did not know of the problems before your purchased it?

I have been using MPCs for quite some time...MPC 2000, 2000XL, 3000, 4000 and the 2500.

From my past experience with MPCs and their initial operating systems...I knew FULL well that this MPC would have the same problems. In fact, I found a few problems within the first 48 hours.

Akai is actively working on the OS. We will have it soon (maybe). Although I am in a hurry to receive it, I don't want them to cut corners. And if you don't know...this new OS WILL have some bugs..I can 100% guarantee this. So if you are disappointed with this OS....you will find one or more things that will disappoint you with the next OS update.

As far as the paint..it is difficult to rub off if you are using the knobs..especially the volume/record knob. Your fingers are rubbing off the paint. I may never have this issue since I have my MPC connected to a mixer. I rarely have to adjust the volume knob. Tip: you may have to use scotch tape on your MPC to prevent this from getting worse :D

what do you mean it rattles?

that sounds very annoying...annoying enough to keep me from wanting one.
Is it when you hit the pads it rattles? Or it rattles from bass or what?

When you hit the pads, the bottom plate covering the box vibrates a little against the frame. But you don't notice it really when you actually play sound with the MPC, just occured to me and a few others obviously.

I usually make buying decisions from features and specifications, possibly some user reviews, but those are hard to find if the machine has only just come out. I try to not let myself be put off by forums like this or similar, which are a great resource, no doubt, but which naturally attract mostly negative feedback about the gear in question, which you all probably realized already. That kinda distorts the picture.

But your experience that it has been just the same with most other MPCs gives me confidence that we will finally get another tight MPC after all

Out of curiosity: have you any idea why the 2500 rattles? is something loose? or is it rattling against something internal? is it the memory expansion cover? surely it's fixable?

lol. an mpc2500 is very different to an airplane, but funny nonetheless.
