HD woes... slow startup & intermittent recognition

Sup all, so I finally got around to installing a HD (Hitachi DK238A-32) in my 2500 last thursday and for a week it works without a hitch. But for some reason when I went to turn it on yesterday it took about 5 minutes to 'load' from the ( 16 MB recognized ) screen and when it finally loaded up it acted like there was no HD in there. I tried pulling the HD out and bam she started right up. I tried using another HD (IBM Travelstar) and the same shit happened...slow startup and didn't recognize the drive.

I tried reformatting the HD, but I can't even select HARD DISK in the Mode > Load > Utility menu. It just hangs at [ Wait... ] . Any one got any idea wtf is going on with my 2500?

Hmm, i've had my hard drive in for a week now and haven't had any problems yet but it hasn't been used that much.

How much data do you have on it at the moment?

Not much...maybe 800MBs or so?

That's not an Akai-approved one, right?

If you know someone with a laptop, maybe you can test if the drive works outside the MPC, but you might have to reformat it in the laptop then to really test it. If it works in there, so you don't have a defective drive, then I guess you're out of luck...

Do you have the new OS on your MPC already? Maybe that helps too...

I have had my HD for over 2 months. No probs whatsoever. But I have an approved Toshiba MK4026gax drive that was on the list. Maybe you should go with one that has been tried and proven to work. Sorry you're having these issues.

Nope, neither of the two are Akai approved. But as I said it worked perfectly fine for a week. I've tried both the drives in my USB enclosure and they both still read perfectly fine. I can still pull/add/edit the samples on my PC through the USB enclosure and yeah I'm on the newest OS.

To be honest i doubt it's got anything to do with it not being on Akai's list.

Akai have tested a handful of drives and obviously they can't test every one on the market.

In the thread in the 1000 forum people have been using ancient 2gb drives from years ago with no problems!
