had the 2500 for about 5 days now and with some help from my boy HydroSlanger got my head around workign in it. this is how I feel about the 2500 so far...
Got the 2500 on weds and have an old laptop 60gb hard drive laying around so chuck that in and its working a treat. dump a bunch of samples on there and start making loops and such. have hydro showing my how to trim/edit samples and everything is going good. make a little loop at his house and save it to the hard drive, ok. head home and turn it on the next day, load up the tune and nothing is there? ok, start a new tune. worked on it alot saturday, have something im feeling and save it with a new name on the root of my HD. sunday, load up the tune. the sone is there, it loads all the samples but no sequences are there. ok, start a new tune. work on it alot sunday, save it with a different name. load it and no sequences are saved.
i am new to the MPC but am not new to hardware. I have used EMU samplers for years, and while I always thought they had the most **** up file saving/loading scheme for any sampler, I never had a problem with loosing a days work on something that seemed so simple as saving a file.
working with the MPC is a treat though. the pads are nice and it is real easy to get some nice grooves flowing. recording is easy and recording the main outs is nice for freeing up effects. I am loving the repeat note and velocity sensitive pads for some nice arp style sounds with changing velocity and some nice shaker/hat flows. The lack of any good effects is pretty shity but the usb connection makes loading pre-processed samples easy enough.
this thread is not meant to bash the mpc or cause drama, just my personal first impresions using it over the first few days I have had it. maybe help someone out who is thinking of getting one and new to MPC's. I am still very new to it myself and have alot to learn. I am still also using the first OS that is shipped with the new 2500's so maybe I will update this week and see if the file saving is fixed with 1.1. I also read the thread on how to save "properly" on the hard drive and will give it a try.
over all i am happy with how easy it is to make nice beats and get away from the computer but kind of disapointed in the OS. guess thats why the updated it!
