EXM128 Memory Question!

An online shop claimed they had the EXM128 Sample RAM Chip for half of the $150 price, but when I went to the city to buy it.. it was a HYNIX 256MB 223A chip and they said "it's the same and if I pop it in it'll be just fine."

The AKAI EXM128 memory chip is a "HYNIX 128MB 338A" chip. I'm guessing that I cannot use the chip they're trying to sell because it's both a different model and a different size MB of RAM, but I could be wrong.

The question is: Can I use this "HYNIX 256MB 223A" chip to expand my sample memory even though it's not the "HYNIX 128MB 338A" chip that AKAI has put their logo over??? Would it not recognize it? Would it destroy my MPC2500?

Personally... I wouldn't use anything but approved RAM; it's not worth it.

Yes you can use it but i'm sure you could get it for less than $75. They're trying to rip you off.

You should be able pick up the RAM required for less than $50 if you go the non-official route.

I'm not sure what you mean by system test. Do you mean that once I install the 256 chip, I need to run a system test? ..and it will give me a hard time if I do? Can I avoid it?

Nah it`s just a recent bug that just got fixed through an OS update... if I'm not (too) crazy

you'll be straight w/any othe RAM other than Akai. some folks on here make a HUGE deal about it but I've owned 2 MPC 1K's and 1 2500 with "generic" RAM and had NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. Go for it man and use your left over money for something else. Just cuz Akai ram has their name on it they can dictate how much to charge you for it. Don't fall for the okey doke.
