could some one please give me some pointers on making your drums looser and not so stiff on the mpc 2500? i'm very new to this machine and i come from reason 3.0 my drums were always on point there but with the mpc the quantize seems to make it seems so robotic. if anyone could tell me how i could help this it would be greatly appreicated. i used a 2000xl once and my drums were nice on there also just like when i use reason but on the 2500 for some reason it seems to be complely different.

dont quantize all your drums

just play it with no quantize "live"

if you're not used to it, it may be difficult at first but just keep trying till you get it right

Not using quantize is the best way to go... all the practice you will get out of it will not go unnoticed either...

If you're not there yet, play around with the quantize options... make sure you use at least 16(3), depending on BPM and instruments, you might need to have different quantize options on different tracks

ie.: a very fast hi hat will usually need 32(3)

Try to combine all of available method as needed, different quantize modes and no quantize, which is ultimately the way to go. Practice practice practice, experiment, repeat.

1.) Try changing the swing percentage. Shift timing should be set to later.

2.) Change the tempo-I like to work between 68-103 bpm.

3.) Adjusting the time signiture form 4/4 to 8/4 is another trick.

Remember!

Quantizing is a good fix it tool in the beginning. But if you want a live and less robotic feel. Set your quantize to off!

Dont ever use 16(3) or 32(3) on quantize, unless its a ghost kick or other note... that shit is so cheesy.. at least if you have a steady sound (like a hat.. or something) and you wanna note repeat... cant imagine how anyone would note repeat or steadily hit a 16(3) or 32(3)...

Either have normal quantize with a 53-60 swing percentage or just dont quantize...

Ajax, it's easy to imagine: cuz they can't hit it on target =P

I remember spending night of just layering the same kick and snare for hours, trying to get the timing right

You could have done it other ways also, for one like going into step edit and just nudge the sound on top of the other one, easier than trying to layer live with quantize off if I'm reading you correctly.

or if akai had the intelligents they did in 1997 they could put the simult option in the os so u only had to hit one pad to trigger 3 pads....but **** who needs simple features like that right guys....

Why not use the sample layers for that?

using layers you cant filter each individule kick or snare u want to layer...with the 2500 u can use only 2 filters per pad....it should be 2 filters per layer......that would be a dream

what I do to get around this shat is simple but still more time consuming then simult.........first I must lay down my original kick.....then copy that program and replace the original kick with the kick I wanna layer the original one with.....then I copy the kick track I sequenced to another track ,replace the original kick program with the copyed one and bam layered kick with access to changing both layers filters..... kinda bull shit when I payed more for somthing that does less!
