Im using 1.2 OS.

I've run in to a little problem when copying MIDI tracks.

Say I have track1 playing back MIDI hardware on channel 1A and want to copy the event data to track2 using Sequence edit.
I have to setup track2 correctly before the copy works. So I have to set DRUM to MIDI, and set the MIDI Channel number to the one I require.

So can someone check when you get the chance? Or is it supposed to be like this?

My guess is that when copying you are copying sequence data only. The MIDI/DRUM data is part of the Program data. The Program data is higher in the heirarchy? so is not copied. It's kind of why they talk about this structure in the beginning of the manual.

IE It's supposed to be this way.

Try copying it by just highlighting the track number in the main screen and hitting window.

I've never used sequence edit to copy a track if it's in the same sequence.

That's what I do, too. And then I change the midi channel to another patch on my corresponding sound module. It works great for layering instruments. Plus, you won't have to setup the track parameters.
