Pitch shift distorts the sample

when i drop the pitch of a slice down to -01.00, it sounds really distorted...anyone know whats up? the OS is updated too

when i change the pitch with the q-link slider, the quality stays perfect no matter how far up or down i go....anyone know why the quality sounds bad when i go in to the pitch shift mode?

Pitch shift mode is an attempt to keep the sample at the same tempo....thus making it distorted and choppy sounding. There are some good threads going around right now about this very topic, you should do a search on the matter you'll find some good info. There are ways to make the pitch shift sound very decent.

k that makes sense...so wuts the best and simplest way to transpose a sample? i've got my manual out right now and i'm reading it, so i may figure it out before anyone answers this

There are topics going on about Timestretch...not so many about Pitch Shift, but it's in the same ballpark. You can adjust it with various presets, but it won't sound good with every sample.


If you don't need the tempo to be kept, just tune the sample, adjusting the rest to the new tempo. I know that's not gonna work everytime. Or look for a software to do your timestretch/pitch shift. Audacity seems to do a good job, and it's free.

in reason with the dr. rex player, you can transpose the file loaded even after you have recorded notes to the sequencer...can you do that on the 2500 meaning that you can take a file that you have already chopped in the mpc and change the pitch to every singe slice all at once?

Look at p. 26/27 for Transpose in Sequence Edit. Maybe that's what you're looking for.

this program does a better job than the 2500 huh? if so I gotta check it out

I believe that this is possible with the 2500 also by using the slider controller.
