Multi-Timberal insanity...

Ok. I have been messing with this for a week now and i think im gonna o crazy. I have multi timberal Synthesizer(The Roland JV 1080). What i shoud be able to do is when i record on midi channel 1, i should be able to play instrument 1. When i go to a new track and play midi channel 2, i should be able to play instrument 2 + intrument1 with differnt melodies. Unfortunatly, thats not happening. I can play instrument 1 on channel 1 ok. but when i make track 2 with midi channel 2 and i go to my synth to part2, the damn thing doesnt respond to my midi key board. Both the MPC and the Synth on active on channel 1. I have the midi hooked up where its on midi out of the keyboard to midi in on the mpc. and midi out on the MPC to midi in on the synth.

I hope someone can help me out...

The problem most likely is due to your JV. Place it in performance/multi mode not patch/voice mode.

it is in performance mode. the wierd things is that when i switch to the next track, it wil sometimes play part 1 and part 2 but with the same key board melodies on 2 diff sounds...

Hey! i havent used a 1080 for a while but try and go into your edit menu within performance mode and check if ur midi channels are matching up with ur synth patch numbers. some performance patches will use multiple synth patches for a single midi channel. once u have them all matching save the performance as "MPC PERFORMACE" or what ever u like. it might b worth checking what midi mode the 1080 is set 2. Trybtek, which edit menu within performance mode. The only one i am able to locate is the one where you can set the control channel?

how do i check if the midi channels are matching up with my synth patch numbers. If you mean checking if the midi channel is matching with the part number...then yes, i check it every time i go to a next track...

As long as you are using A1 and A2 for Midi channel 1 and two, everything you have done on the MPC is correct. You are doing something wrong somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be with the MPC.

Go into your MPCs MIDI/Sync menu and list your settings so we can trouble shoot your issues...

Active Track Recieve Channel: 1
Soft thru: AS TRACK (I have also tried OMNI-A)
Sequence change by program change: OFF
Pad to internal sound: ON

Change.....Active Track to Receive Channel: ALL...Soft thru: As Track



Make those settings and see if it will solve your problem. Also, make sure that you are using the latest MPC OS 1.21.

ok tried it....didnt make a diff....

There is something that is missing..either a setting on your keyboard or sound module.

Try disconnecting the keyboard and use only the MPCs pads to trigger the sound module to see if that works.

Also, list the settings you have on the MPCs main window. Make sure that no track is muted and that the MPC is not in SOLO.

Then move the cursor to the Program field and press the Open Window button. List the Program change settings for the track you are trying to record to.

I got it working! I called Roland tech support (which is 10 times better than akai's tech support) and they told me how to do a software reset. Everything works great now! Thank you for all of the responses. It is appreciated greatly.

no i wasnt blaming the MPC, i didnt know what it was really. But even if i was, with so many bugs in the current OS, could you blame me...N e wayz....im just glad its taken care....back to production
