2000xl user who switched?

Im thinkin of gettign an 2500, now I got the 2000xl

is there anyone here who made the switch? what was the negative/positive?

i made the switch along with a few other guys on here. everyone is going to tell you somthing different so you should go check out one out at a guitar center to see how it works for you.

I'm 100% pleased.

I wouldn't want to go back to the xl.

I made the switch..and would also never go back to an XL..although the XL is an excellent machine. It does pretty much the same as the XL minus some features...but adds about a dozen more...

The negative is the price. If I still had the 2000XL, I would keep it. The positive is the features, backup options, and add-ons. There is also the 1000, which I may be considering to sit next to my 2500.

The negative is the price? $1600-$1700 for a new MPC 2500? That's equal to or slightly more than a new MPC 2000XL-MCD w/ 8 outs, FXs, and 8 MB flash rom board.

The CD drive is now free...memory is cheap....and internal hard drives are cheap.

Contrary to popular belief, these are professional music production tools and not toys....they are not suppose to be cheap.

I never owned the xl but i was checking into it before i bought the 2500,but i have to say the HARDDRIVE,CD option, the COMPACTFLASH,and 8OUTS standard sound me over the xl

I understand they are not cheap and not toys, and I don't expect the prices to drop much unless your going to buy used, or hook up a deal with a salesesperson, but comparing the price from a fully loaded 2000XL(he didn't mention mcd) on Ebay to the 2500 is a huge difference. Money is an issue for some people excluding myself. In 2 years I spent close to $8000 on quality equipment for my production room. My last purchase was the 2500, $1700, and when that's paid off I'm gunning for the Mackie Control surface $800 used, incuding some others I can't decide on, so I can match your setup .

He didn't have to mention MCD model. I was just comparing similar units. A maxed out 2000XL reagardless of which type of drive you have installed is still in the price range of an MPC 2500. You may/may not save $100-$200 by buying the XL (and you will be lucky if you can find the optional expansion boards), but you will lose out on all the extras.....extras that are way to many too many to list..and there are a dozen threads on the subject.

If you look around..you can catch used MPC 2500s going for $1200-$1400..

I made the switch. I love it but the biggest drawback is the transitional process of resaving all of your work to the 2500 for compatability issues.
