I've been the proud owner of a new MPC2500 for about two weeks ago, and I've gotta say.... this is such a lovely tool! I love it love it love it! I also bought the "Beat Making on the MPC2500" ebook and really learned a lot more out of there than I ever could've done from the manual... kudos to the authors! :)

Now, for the ram question: rather than buy the Akai ram, I went out & bought a standard 144 pin 256mb module (PNY brand, part # N256S100Z ... the sticker reads "256MB, DSR SODIMM, H"). I've searched through the forums and haven't seen this issue mentioned yet: after the ram install, I power it up. It correctly detects 128mb but then just hangs there. Is it just testing the ram really slowly, or is this a sign of incompatible ram?

I tried reseating the module, holding down play when powering on & holding down erase when powering on ... and it never gets past the "128mb ram" screen.

I'm running os 1.21 iirc, if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Ah well, I returned the ram.

I have a 64mb module that detectes at 32, so it's better than nothing ,)

Yup, that was a great discussion!

Well, after googling the part # of the ram, it seems that it's a PC100 module rather than a PC133.

The packaging certainly implied that it was PC133, else I wouldn't've bought it ,) That's what I get for going retail instead of mail order!
