i've had an s950 since 2004 that i use every so often. i would record the samples out of my 2000xl into the s950, then play them from the s950 and record them back into the 2000xl just to get that 12 bit sound.
anyway, i plan on doing this with the 2500 as well, but seeing all of these posts about JJ OS's got me thinking.. what if it was possible to upgrade the OS on the s950?
i think JJ could make a killing if they made an OS for the s950 that allowed it to produce the 12-bit grittiness realtime while monitoring without having to record.
so rather than having to sample and being limited by the small amount of sample time on the s950, all the s950 would have is a screen that allows you to choose the sample rate, maybe even apply some of the filters that are available (though i could get by without them), and then it would also show the monitoring level across the bottom so you can make sure there's no clipping. you can then just run the sound through the machine, and sample into the 2500.
in theory it might be possible, right? instead of recording the sample to memory, it would just send the data straight out to the D/A converters.
if they came up with somethin like that, i'd spend over 100 bucks for it easy, and i'm sure a lot of other people would too. hell, i'd buy a second s950, apply that OS and then use them both together to send samples through stereo. and no more need to even get the memory upgrades.
could you imagine? if anyone has any contact with JJ, try to find out if they could do that. i would be real interested to know if it's possible.
