polyphony & JJ's OS

I'm not sure if it's the OS, or the hardware. Sounds are droppin like crazy. I got a beat going with plenty of sounds being layered. None of my samples are assigned to be muted. As soon as I play the hi-hats, a few samples will drop and stop playing. If I mute the hi-hats,the mpc plays fine. Never had this problem with the XL unless I was doing some deep programming, but I'm nowhere near deep on this sequence and the MPC is crappin' out on me. I'll try the regular akai OS to see if it makes any difference, but had anyone else noticed this problem with the JJ os?

Too mutch stereo samples?
Stereo samples cut your polyphony in half , i run into this problem a lot.
And also be sure to cut the silence at the end of the sample.

I don't use the JJ OS so I can't confirm anything. However.....when you play you hi-hats, do they cause samples in the same program to drop out? Or do they cause samples in other programs to drop out?

If it does it to samples in the same program, it does sound like your samples are part of a mute group or your program is set to MONO vs Poly.

If it does it to samples in other programs, then maxing out POLYPHONY can be the source of your problem. If that is the case, try resampling tracks to turn them into one wave file to free up polyphony...

I only have one program, but I already checked the mono poly of the program. Everything is all god except then the beat starts playing.. sometimes it will play fine, but mse the time notes drop in the middle of playing. I'm going to try reinstalling the akai OS to see if the problem is persistant.

You checked it..but is the program set for POLY?

Also did you exceed the MPCs POLYPHONY by having to many sounds playig at the same time. The MPC 2500 has only 32 voices.

Everything was fine, and I know I wasn't maxin out the polyphony. I wasn't even deep into the beat. The weird thing is that the next day, it played fine. Never had this happen with the 2000XL. 2500 is dope with it's bells and whistles, but I need reliability. I really hope this is just a one time thing.

check for long tails on often repeating notes, like hi hats or rides. make sure these are either trimmed or set to play monophonic. this seems to be the most frequent cause of note droppage.

Are you positive that you didn't overlook something? I seriously doubt there was a problem one day and then it disappeared without you doing anything the next day.

Doing layering is not that hard to get to 32 voices. If you using stereo samples, 4 pads playing simultaneous each one with 4 samples layered, and you reach 32 voices. 4 x 4 x 2 = 32
