Read Speed with Hard Drives?

I've been using compact flash cards since I got my 2500. Data transfer to the computer is slow. I'm guessing this gets a lot faster with hard drives, unless there's some limit to the 2500's read speed.

Anyone have experience with this?

Your limitation would probably be the USB 1.1 connection between MPC and PC. So that way it is actually slower than via a USB 2 CF card reader...

makes sense now... it's too bad that akai falls so hideously short in a few areas on such a great product. usb 1.1 in 2005???

Anyway you have vastly more space, and loading/saving from HD in the MPC itself will be much quicker also than from the CF card.

Depends on the hard drives RPM. I have the 80 GB hard drive Akai tested and it is pretty slow. Loading on the Flash Card that it came with is a little faster. But with a HD, space is not an issue so you can plunk everything on there at one time and not have to keep loading and deleting files like you do with a small flash card. So if you are really concerned with the speed, just get a hard drive with a high RPM. Otherwise just get a large HD and drag everything on to it at once, go drop a load and come back and you will be set for awhile.

Maybe its a way to throttle the data speed to the OS?? Dunno tho.
