Getting INTO Flash Cards and hard drives!!!

Well I first got an MPC 1000 and it came with a 32mb card... really AKAI is very sloppy I must say!!! What can anyone do with that card? Not the much mabe a song or 2! And the built in ram issue damn that pisses me off too! See after a week with the 1000 I was having neck problem because of the NON pop up screen and a bunch more things on top so I went for the 2500

Now when i first got the 1000 I went out right away and got the 1gig card (big mistake). When I went home and put like 500mb of sounds it took forever !!! Now I was running it from the USB and from what I have heard is very slow... Now everyone is different in making music so everyone does there own thing but I found by the time it took me to load the samples my idea for a song was gone!!!

After a week of dealing with the 1000 I had to take it back!!! I got the 2500 to replace the 1000... Now after I got the 2500 I heard that the 1000 can hold a hard drive, which I think is a good option to have... Now some people just like to work on one song and get that done and move to another but for me I make a nice loop and I have to sleep on it and finish it off another day... If you have a flash card saving projects will fill up fast and the lack of space can get to you... But it depends on the music you make! Now this is a drum machine but you can do so much more with samples and load what ever you want really..

I payed for a 1gig card $72.87 canadian from a best buy (ya to me thats a rip)... I went to the local computer store and got a 120gig for $95 canadian... now would you rather 1 or 2 gigs or 120gigs for just a little bit more money? Too me I would rather load all my samples in 1 big shot then load them all the time... But thats me... but I do have a point! When the MPC 1000 first came out those cards were worth a lot of money but they have come down in price and they can be taken anywhere but for the money factor I would go with the hard drive and save time and the hassle!!!


A bit of ranting....

When you buy something for a good chunk for change DO you want to upgrade? I was unhappy of the fact that AKAI could not charge a bit more for there product (which you all know you would pay it) and have the 128ram and a hard drive installed!! I just don't see why AKAI just does not step there game up and make a machine you will never have to touch AGAIN. A MPC that has everything you need with out having to go a buy everything.. Now AKAI if you have ever delt with them are very slow movers!!! A Big music store in Toronto Long & Mcquade has to fight with AKAI to get product... Now I went there to buy an MPC 2500 NEW and they had none but they had a floor demo. Now they sayed buy this one and we will order you one in and when it comes bring this one back and we will give you a new one...well 2 months have gone by and still no MPC what the hell...Now I hjave a buddy that works there and there on order so where are they...Thats what I mean by slow movers! Sorry to all the MPC lovers out there but AKAI is hell to deal with. Great product but bad service!

Cards are just another floppy thing but they hold more

or buy a microdrive upto the size of 4gig for v little money n stick it in ur CF slot...

Yea...what's the point in having an interchangeable, portable storage medium anyway....the whole flash card business is just a big mistake

do you realize that old samplers had only a few seconds of sample time and saved to floppy disks that were only 1.44mb? now you're complaining about having a 32mb card? you gotta be kidding me!

i had an mpc2000xl for years and i used to save a beat to a single floppy disk. the max amount of disks i used on any single beat was 4.

and why does akai not sell the MPC's maxed out? not only because they can get more money selling them separate, but some people don't need the extra sample time. like i said, i used to be able to save beats to a single 1.44mb floppy disk, so 16mb of memory is more than enough sample time.

i completely disagree. if you go to a studio that has a 2500, all you have to do is bring a card that you can fit in your pocket, you don't have to lug around your mpc.
