I did a search and came up empty handed.

Im sick of the hum from the main and individual outs, how do you use the digital out so i can check if this works and gets rid of the friggin hum.

Peace

...just connect the mpc spdif out to your mbox spdif in and you should have the same result as when using the stereo outs. mpc manual says they are mirrored...
you can use a simple rca cable for that, but you may get better results using proper coax cables.

...it is digital... you can transfer ten milion channels with a digital connection - it just depends on bus speed and transfer protocol. spdif is stereo...
mlan (yamaha firewire for music) transfers 16 channel audio with one cable.

Yes.

Ok back again... thanks for your help so far, your kind of confirming what i knew, but i was just unsure.

So how to you assign the output to the Spdif??? Ive looked through the manual and that thing is basically useful for basic things. Ive gone into the mixer and can see options for the stereo outs and the mono outs (master, 1,2,3,4 etc) but not digital??

Am i being a moron here???

...just set them to stereo. then there is the same signal coming out of the main stereo outs, the spdif out and the headphone jack at the same time...

Make sure you have the inputs for your interface set to SPDIF. If not, it won't recognize the signal. My M-Audio interface has a user interface on the computer that lets you select inputs and outputs and set their levels. Not sure if this is the case with the Mbox. Also, if you are going into a DAW you also have to make sure that the input for the channel you have selected is set to the proper input of your interface. For instance, for my M-Audio 1814, ProTools recognizes my SPDIF inputs as stereo input channels 9/10. So if I use SPDIF, I have to make sure to set this in the proper channel or ProTools won't recognize the inputs. I started off using digital outs, but like the flexibility of the 8 outs. For the hum, be sure to "invest" in high quality cables. Sometimes we spend $2000 for a digital sampler (MPC2500), with these awesome converters in it and then run the sound out of low quality unshielded cables and kill the beauty of the analog sound from the MPC. Don't get me wrong, digital is beautiful too, but a good set of Gold balanced Monster cables going out of your 8 outs will make tears come out of your eyes, especially when you hear an 808. Using cheap cables, it sounds like sh!t with lots of hums and cracks. Just a thought. It may just be your cables.

yeah, i had a play last night and could not get the spif connection to work. il play some more today and what the deal is.

As far as the hum goes, i agree that better quality cables are the way to go, but a blatant hum is down to more than cables...

^^MAJOR CO-SIGN^^ YOU GUYS MIGHT ALSO WANT TO INVEST IN A MONSTER POWER CONDITIONER TO ELIMINATE DIRTY POWER THUS ELIMINATING HUMS, CRACKS, HISS...ETC.

Yeah, you def have to make sure that all of the rates are the same. Plug the SPDIF cable on the out of the MPC and the in on the 1814 breakout cable. On the M-Audio 1814 user interface on your computer, click the "Hardware" tab. Make sure you check SPDIF as your digital source on the hardware tab and make sure that "external" is set under the sync. You should see "44100" on the screen for the sample rate which coming from the MPC. Open Cubase and create a stereo audio track and select 9+10 as the input source for the track. Make sure record is armed and you may have to click the direct monitor button on the track too. Hit a pad on the MPC and you should get a clean sound. The only problem I can think you are having is that your sync clock on the 1814 Hardware page is set wrong. Try this. I hope it helps. Happy Easter.
