MPC 2500 Hard drive install

I just got the 2500 and it's worth the money!
Now I liked the fact that I could save all my samples on a hard drive and use them when I want without having to mess with the USB too much!

Now I did some searching on this site and others and every site says something different! Now i have delt with many hard drives and really a hard drive is a hard drive I think anyways.

Now I got a fujiitsu 120gig 2.5" laptop HDD
now another thing.... Everyone says well I got a 40 gig and it's more then enough... Well I know I have over 400 gigs in samples and 40 gigs just would not do! SO I would go for the 120 gig but thats just me! If I could get a 400gig drive trust me I would! You may say 400gigs wow thats a lot and ya I'm a sample whore no doubt but my samples are in different folders and i know whats what!

But getting down to the install....

Take the front off and take "the mag" as i call it out!

Now I got jumpers with my hard drive but I never put them in

Install the hard drive and put EVERY bolt back in place!!!

NOW THIS IS WHAT I DID!!!!


I turned on the MPC 2500 and the hard drive showed up but I could not format why you ask well I will tell you!!!

On a PC if you go into control panel you will see an icon that says admin tools... click on that

Then click on computer management...then in the list you will see disk management... Now if you have the hard drive in and its new and the USB is hooked up you will see the drive but there a black line on the top of it!!!...Now you right click and make the drive active.... BUT DONT FORMAT... you can but you would be a waste of time doing it!!!

Now turn off the MPC 2500 and let it re boot the go to load (if you have an MPC you would know what i Mean) now make sure your ACCESS TO: is HARD DISK... Now Hit UTILIT which is F3 and format the drive with the MPC... And you should be up and running!

I hope this has helped someone out there and because i could not find anyone to help me!!!

You know you format the drive on the MPC not the PC right?


Dont use the USB to format your HDs.

the answer i was needing wasnt exactly what u said mr thread starter but it jogged my mind enough to have the common sense to press the fukkin window button

damn... 400 gigs of samples kinda seems like overkill, doesn't it?

How long does it take to copy 400Gb of files? Wow, like days, weeks!

i have a 40gb hd in my 2500 and thought i would need more space. after many months of using it i only take up 4gb. i think i'm good with 40.

so you dont have to use one of the recomended laptop HD's?

Akai have a list of supported harddrives on their site.

The reason they are supported is because they meet minimum requirements for the Akai OS.

Therefore you maybe able to buy another laptop harddrive that isnt on AKAI supported list as long as it mactches the exact specifications of those which Akai do support.

So find one that is supported, go to manurfactures website, and get get detailed specs and then compare to other harddrives.

However, I'm washing my hands of this - if it doesnt work dont blame me. I went with the 40GB supported disk, but I have heard peps get other "non supported disks" to work.

How is that drive work'n out for ya? Any problems, just curious.

yeah.. I've bought myself travelstar for 80 gig.. since that i still got about a 60 gig left.. I think I wouldn't use that space
