turn off tap tempo?

i just picked up an MPC2500 (first mpc ever), and i'm confused. when i press play the tap tempo will not stop playing in the backround. how can i turn this off so i can just listen to the track?

it sounds like there's a helicopter in the backround!

the tap tempo doesn't make a sound....

are you talking about the metronome aka click? from the main screen hit the "click" soft key (F2) and change the settings. it's in the manual, page 16.

and btw, tap tempo is a feature you'd use if you wanted to manually "tap" in the tempo (or BPM) of a sequence.
