chopping vinyls - technical question

Hi. I've got technical question. I'm making music on mpc 2500, I was using my mate turntable to chop vinyls but I need to get my own. I was also thinking about getting Vestax Handytrax (portable turntable) cause it makes things much easier while looking for some good records (lot's of shops with plenty of music but without turntables). So I thought I could save money and instead of buying two turntables I could get only Vestax and use it for sampling too.The thing is that I don't know if it's not gonna affect the quality of sound (Vestax has RCA output). I could use a preamp to make signal better. I will be very grateful for any help in this matter. cheers

i think any output is not really gonna be the quality that your prefer, so just chop the sample then edit it to your liking with whatever you have

Those little portable vestax joints are great little gadgets for dig'n in crates. Take em anywhere and they use batteries. Not sure if its the best solution for samples but if its all you got its all you got, be creative.

I personally use the Numark PT-01, which is pretty much the numark equivalent to the vestax portable. I usually pop the batteries in and use it to go digging and just come back and connect it to my mpc. I also have a pair of 1200's that I used to use for sampling, but now I only use it to scratch phrases and what not. I personally don't hear a difference when if comes to quality of samples.

On a technical standpoint, when i used my 1200, I'd go to trim and the waves would just look like lines which in turn made it harder to visually chop. Probably because the sound had to go through a mixer. But since I've started numark portable, I can connect it directly to my mpc and the way waves look on trim are more distinguishable hence easier to chop visually.

Also my 1200's have a 8+- on pitch control (however there are turntables nowadays that have interchangeble pitches) compared to the numark/vestax which have 10+- on its pitch control. May not seem like a lot, but it does have a noticeble difference in sound if you are the type to speed up or slow down samples. Regular turntables have may have rpms that go to 33 and 45, but I'm sure the vestax just like my numark has an option to go to 78. I don't know when you may use since it is super fast, but at least you have the option to if you do decide. Personally, I recommend using your portable not only because of convinience but because of the technical pros. Hope this helps you make your decision.
