How can I trim one measure of sampled midi playing?

I want to sample a bar of midi drum kit so I can play the audio loop instead of lugging the midi gear around. How can I chop the sample exactly at the beginning and end of a bar? If I am sampling a bar of only off-beat hats, I have nothing to tell me where to trim the start.

Is there a way to chop at start of a measure?

If I understood you right, when you sample the audio signal, go to trim mode screen and just cut the unwanted part at the beginning and end.
Then you just have to figure out where to put this new sample so it will match your sequence.

Say I have a midi sequence of off-beat hats and I sample 4 bars of the pattern. I end up with one long audio sample. But the sample doesn't start right on the start of beat one, because you have to start the sampling manually. I can try to start sampling at the same moment as I start the sequence playing but it won't be exactly in time. Its down to human error in trying to get the sampling to start right on the start of playback.

There's no audio or visual indication of where beat one starts in the sample, and because there's no sound on beat one, I can't just trim up to the start of the sound. If its a kick drum on beats 1-4, that is easy to just trim to the start of a kick. But with hats its not easy.

I'm think its not possible.

I'm sure it can be done. When you try every possibility, if you want, PM me with the link to this sampled audio and I'll trim it for you. Just give me the bpm of the sequence it came from.

Thanks for the offer, but I have many loops I want to trim. To give you a picture of the problem, the attached photo shows the kick drum on the bottom. This is dead easy to trim. The middle one is also easy because the hats start on every beat. But the top one is my problem: when editing it on the MPC I don't have any reference for knowing where the beats are. If the off beats are exactly on time then I could do the math and work out the empty space in front of the first hit. But if I am pushing the hats, I just can't tell where to trim the start.

I think I'm stuck and will have to use a DAW to sample the loops exactly on measure boundaries.

These hihats on the top look like a repetitive ones, mening there are only 2 sounds. At least it looks like that. Personally I wouldn't bother with matching and trimming. I would just chop em and record like I want to. There is always a STEP edit screen, so no problem in getting it to sound just right.

The hi hats are just a simple example, the point is that there is no audible clue as to where the measure starts. I want to freeze the part to audio but it is surprisingly hard to get right. I've already gotten the feel right, and now this trimming forces me to get the feel right all over again

Wish I had never thought of the idea, cos its hard work!
