problem previewing samples in LOAD screen

OK heres a little problem I have been having with my MPC2500. I have a ton of drum samples that I have collected over the years but something I noticed was that a lot of my samples (wav) that I have in my MPC sound differently when previewing them as opposed to when I actually load them up. The majority of my samples that do this are samples that have been downloaded free off the internet. The ones that are fine ar emainly from drum kits that I have bought. Heres an example of my problem: When I'm in my LOAD screen in my "Kicks" folder I like to use the "play" feature which allows me to scroll down the list of all my samples and listen to them. Problem is on a lot of my stuff when I "play" it they sound like they are pitched up by like +2 or even +3. So basically I think I have my sound picked out and when I load it and assign that same sample to a program it is pitched down to normal. Basically my preview in my LOAD screen does not give me the true sound of the actual sample. It previews it at a higher pitch. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone else ever had this problem? peace

The samples are not 44.1 kHz. If they are playing back at a higher pitch, that means that their sample rate is lower than 44.1.

If they are @ 32 kHz, you ned to pitch them down by roughly 5.6 semi tones to get them back to their original pitch, if memory serves me right. Check the properties of the samples in your computer to see what rate they're at.

ahhhh thats exactly it! I just checked my samples that arent giving me the preview error and they are all 44khz and the ones that are giving me the problem are all random sample rates anywhere from 11khz to 40khz or so. So that why, man your good thanks for the help. I'm not sure how to fix it but at least i know now. also, its not too big of a deal cause when i load the sample up and assign it to a pad it sounds normal so i think this problem is just with previewing it. is there anyway to change the sample rate? peace

I use Adobe Audition to change a lot of samples in one go (bulk convert) but there must be a freeware program that does this... Have a look at Hitsquad maybe?

Or you could download the trial version from Adobe and do it within the one month you get to try it - if you're using windows that is.

thanks a lot man i'll give the adobe audition thing a try. at least to get all the samples i have in my mpc on the same sample rate. peace
