Newbie ? for 2500 recording directly into a sequence

Ok I know the 2500 can resample its own output but can you record external instruments like a keyboard straight into a sequence while its playing? Basically I replay a lot so I find the 2000xl a pain as you cant play along with a track whilst recording. I know these features are on a lot of roland models. A typical session for me (ideally) would be record chop and sequence my sample, have all of my instruments (Bass, Keys, Mics) running into my mixer, the outputs of the mixer then go to the inputs of the 2500. I'd then replay the elements i want to keep playing along with the sample whilst recording - delete or filter the original sample then improvise other parts while the tracks playing. I'm a midi phobe so this is my perfect way of working. Sorry the questions so long and i hope it makes sense. Any help greatly appreciated

Ya you can. I haven't tried it yet but I know its capable of doing it. Just youtube it and youll find a bunch of videos.

Just for the record, it's called Direct Recording, but I believe you can do the same thing in Record Mode when you just let the sequence running.
