Unnecessary physical activity that in itself has more potential to cause a problem than prevent one.
I makes no sense to open up the unit and go through all that when you can acccomplish the same thing with a quick drag and drop to your computer.
It's not like on the 4k where you have to use ak.sys and hope it doesn't fault out.
Also anyone who has opened a 2500 will tell you that the screws on that lower front face and under the overhang lip tighten a little less everytime you remove them and put them back.

Would be like removing the tire on your car to check the air pressure.

Lol, u wish ..... it took me hours and hours and freakin hours to copy 40gb of samples onto mine, literally over half a day or more

I've just tried to d&d 3gb from the mpc to my desktop, it was estimating 75mins to complete. I gave up after 3 mins and it had copied 132mb.

Now, i'm not too sure how good you are with a screwdriver, but i'd say

Then somethings really wrong in your equation.
When I got rid of my 2500 I dragged my 2500 contents to the G5 and it didn't take anywhere near that long.
I still have all the contents from 2500 and it's been gone since July 07 using whatever version JJ OS was available at that time.

Also how is connecting and testing a unit that you just went inside of off the mark?
If you open the unit you would want to verify it's operation.

how would i go about saving the contents of my hard drive to my computer? do i just click and drag via usb? whats the best way? btw i have a Mac.

That's about right. I did a rough estimate on my way to work this morning when I thought about this. USB 1.1 can do about 12 MBit/sec., which is about 1.5 MB/sec. In reality it would be more like 1 MB/sec., so 3600 MB or roughly 3.5 GB per hour. Theoretically. Yea, I'm a geek....

So, if you only keep a few GB of sample sets on your drive so you don't have to switch them back and forth each time from the PC, then I hold a bet against that with my screwdriver
