hard drive problem

I just installed a hard drive in my mp. 80gig seagate.
Thing is, I have no trouble accessing my memory card when I choose to pop up open via usb but when I try to access my hard drive via usb it says '' accessing '' then nothing happens afterwards contrary to my memory card...
I even tried saving on the hard drive, then it says: '' system error, or disc is full ''
im I doing something wrong or my hard drive dont got the right specs for the mp even tho im pretty sure that has nothing to do with it.
When I power the mp, it states that theres a cd/dvd and 128 ram installed is it supposed to state that a hard drive is installed too?

you gotta format the hard drive in the mpc. i would tell you exactly how, but im at work. check tha manual! peace

there's nothing in the manual that talks about the hd aside from saving to the hd...
I tried formatting but nothing happens afterwards..
