sound design

hey

i am currently considering getting a 2500 but was wondering how capable they are in the realm of sound design- really flipping a sample and making it my own, adding that sound that i couldn't get from my mac.

the interface really appeals to me (as does the legendary punch/crisp sound) but i'm not sure how powerful it is for audio processing or whether i'd be better off with a more synth-like tool such as the machinedrum sps-1 UW.

i'm after unique electronic/idm type of sounds but thought if i used the 2500 in tandem with my mac and soundhack, ableton etc. it might give some good results.

mpc are superior sequencers - but if you want to samples and form you sampl e you might want to look at a asr-10 rack.

damn - the asr looks mint. heard a lot about them but never really looked into buying one. doesn't seem like there's loads about for sale.

for the shit you want to do youd be better off with ableton 6

cheers but i've already got it. using it in conjunction with audacity, soundhack, taps, Fscape, spear, supercollider etc. but like i say, i was after something that a computer couldn't generate - heard so much about the punch and clarity of mpcs that i thought they might be worth a shot.

i'm considering just spending more time and trying to be more creative with my samples (doin field and instrument recordings etc) and then perhaps loadin em onto an mpc to do some touchin up and sequencing...not sure yet though. gotta be honest - the machinedrum sps-1 uw looks like the cream. it's a different beast but i'll mebbe hafta bankrupt myself.

has anyone had troubles with mpc 2500 and ableton? i've heard the mpc's midi is more accurate and that ableton mauls your sequences when you transfer them- you lose the precise original flavour. does the mpc's clean sound get lost when you record to a computer too? i have a decent soundcard but would be gutted if that punch got lost in transition - would kinda defy the point.

also if you downsample to 12bit on a 2500 does it sound much like the original mpc 60? wasn't sure if akai used the same boards or parts of the same technology or anything still.

You can't downsample to 12 bit on the 2500.

The hardware that is used is completely different from the one in the 60.

i'll look into the jj os - seems interesting. hopin to test the 2500 at a shop next week so i'll see how it goes...i'm lookin forward to it.

does the free jjos allow you downsample to 12bit? or does only Jjos version 2 have that ability?
I wouldn' know,because i dont have neither a 2500 or any jjos..i'm interested in getting a 2500 though

You have 60 posts here already, and didn't discover that there is a whole forum for the JJOS with a sticky that contains all the information you will ever need about that? C'mon man...

the free jjos doesnt have downsampling. os1 and os2 do. (actually i'm not 100% positive if os2 does but i know 1 does) it's a nice feature. doesn't sound like real real 12 bit sampling but it's a nice add on. sometimes its cool to do it with samples to spice them up or down. haha.
