Something I Noticed But Chose To Ignore

alright Ya'll I'm Pissed just when I give up to the little black mother f$%%^%^ Akai let's me down.

I'm bangin out the hotness git everything flowing right my sequences are linking different parts of the song. My Blunt is gettin kinda of small and I'm getting extra dumb so i figure" lemme ssssave this before before I lose somethin" so I save my sequence then I decide "wwait last time you sssaved like this, you didn't have ALL your shit, so sssave erything".

I create a folder THEN SAVE THE ENTIRE MEMORY

alright i'm good I figure back to beat

make about 8 more tracks to add to my sequence. This time I got smart,

"Lllast tttime you saved like this (saved sequence with same name in same folder) the file didn't get created".

So I get smart save the sequence with the same name only I add a number so that I know which virgin is which (yeah I said Virgin).

Anyway by now I'm tired soaked up some new information (good lookin for those who helped), banged the sh@t out this MP (punk Motherf%%^!)
I'm ready to eat and go to sleep.I eat sleep wake up go to revel in the wonder that is me.

Load up my fresh butters and whattdayaknow the machine saved every version of the beat but...when I load up the later ( i.e. ones beat, beat1)
they are exactly the same as the original

In other words at no point did the Machine overwrite the file. It just renamed the ORIGINAL FILE!!!!!!!!!!

had this happen to me before on different occassions but I figured nah, It's just me to much Chron Chron. This time I know it isn't me bcuz I went through hell just to avoid this same scneraio.



For those who would like to reproduce create a sequence (seq A)
save your sequence

then make changes to the sequence (Seq A) save the changes you make to the Sequence

delete the seq. from memory (you should know how to do this)

load Seq A from Wherever you save, see if the changes you made are reflected in the file

next create a new folder

(you can do it like I did it I doubt it makes a f$%kin difference) Save all memory

name your Project file the same name as the folder
make changes to your sequence
Save your project file

make sure when you save your project you keep the filename, but add something to the end (i.e Project becomes project1)

Erase all the sequences and samples from memory and load the Latest Project file (project1) let me know if your changes are reflected in your file

Can someone please confirm if this is another Bug or Do I have to get another Hard drive or something??????

bruv, try this method if u dont wanna lost anything, i havent lost anything in weeks, everytime you save, create a new folder in say a beats folder on your root, i date the folder so for today 060506 then save eveythn in there, turn off, come back 2morra, and make a new folder thatl be 070506 then wen im done save everythin in there, then i got a back catalogue, so if somethin did die i always keep 3 days worth behind the one im on, and delete the oldest one as i create a new one. that way nothin gets messed up.

I only save one project file per folder. I have never lost anything. But I will give newmp's saving method a try to see if I can produce the same problems.....

I have lost a few beats but it's because I dont pay attention to what I'm doing. My biggest problem has been that I dont name my samples and programs and they overwrite older files.

I am not saying everyone is doing what taxman806 has done...but I do suspect that a few people have lost files due to the same errors/lack of attention to detail when saving.

But so far...the seperate folder saving routine has not resulted in any losses for me. Hint...Hint....

I do this same thing with my 2kxl, never had a problem.

Your Resident big dog in these parts I"M DEFINITELY TAKING THE ADVICE .

I'm on the same boat, as far as creating a new folder for each save.

I'll save my progress create a folder, ex. beat name 1 and save. then as I go on, I'll re save later on down the line and create a new folder beat name 2 and save and so on.

the problem is the .all file isnt being replaced. If you select yes under "replace same files" when saving the project, the sequence is saved properly.

yes, I think this should be handled a little better, but for now, just select yes for 'replace same files' and you should be ok.

ive had shit straight up not get saved, and i cant find any evidence of it the next morning. **** UP.

i just leave my mpc on for weeks at a time now and burn beats to cd as i finish em.

Do you do incremental backups as you go as well? Or just one big save at the end of play?

Does this problem happen at all if using the 32 meg memory card? Is it just a hard drive issue or does the memory card lose stuff too? thanks!!

That's a good question. Cause that would give a hint if it is a problem with the filesystem/software, or with the hardware.

I haven't had problems with either one for some time, so I can't tell about that.

The only flash card I have is in my keyboard. I do not like losing things so as far as SEEING if I'll LOSE anything on my card noooo thannks (but thanks). I use a combination of Jahrome's and Hyraglific's method so far everything is Cool.

I am computer Literate and being that the MPC has a File System (how else would we be able to save, load, and "REPLACE" our files) I just figured it should function like a REAL computer. Oh well I'm asking too much I'll just stick to finding new workarounds and ignore the fact I just layed out almost 2 grand on this Beeyi-itch!

Oh yeah I'm E-mailing Akai on this one!
