how impossible would it be

to get a baby blue screen on an MPC 2500?

three easy steps:

1. Disassemble 2500.
2. Exchange green LEDs with blue ones.
3. Reassemble 2500.

on the real though, i don't think anyone's done it before, so you'd have to take it apart to find out what kind of LEDs are in there, then buy some. chances are they're surface mount LEDs which are slightly harder to solder than normal 'pin through board' LEDs.

They aren't surface mount LEDs. They usually use those to light single lights like a button. The MPCs use LCD module. Since akai makes TVs, my guess is they made custom ones for thier MPCs. If not, finding an LCD modulewith the same resolution but a different color, may not be impossible. LIke you said, it would just be a job of swapping them out.

Display: 240 x 64 dot graphic LCD w/back light. That should be easy to find. I will look for one later and post what i find

to me it doesn't sound like you know what you're talking about.

LCDs are simply filters that either allow light through, or don't. if they're backlit, they either use LEDs, cold cathodes, or electro luminescent sheets. the older MPCs like the 2000/3000/60 etc. used EL sheets. these wear out after a while. i believe the MPC2500 and 1000 use LEDs. not sure about the 4000 as i've never seen one in the flesh, but that looks like cold cathodes to me.

you think there are 240 x 64 tiny little LEDs that makeup the screen? The screen is self contained in a module. I dont think its possible to change the backlight on an LCD screen.You either have a backlit LCD module or a non backlit LCD module. the LCD screen is one pice. The LCD modules i found on that website have different backlights.

i don't think you understand what i am talking about, not trying to offend you or anything, but that is my opinion.

i'm not saying that the screen is made up of loads of tiny LEDs, i'm saying it IS an LCD with LED backlight. the LEDs provide the light to shine through the LCD. if there are LEDs of one colour there, surely it's possible to replace them with one of a different colour?

Yea, it MAY be possible to change the light source from a backlit LCD screen, but if a new LCD screen with a different backlight color is available, i would go for that anyway. Im scared enough of taking apart my MPC, i woudnt want to go through the screen too. As i see it, a swap out would be easier than a whole LCD screen backlight changing project

i disagree, unless you can find the company that makes the LCD for Akai, you're going to have major trouble making any other display work in an MPC. that is assuming that Akai don't use any form of standard interface. like you said earlier, it needs an eletronics expert on the job. but i'd be more than willing to take apart a screen to change the backlight...
