Audio CD burning since OS 1.1.
Data backup was possible from the beginning.

Unless something changed with this most recent OS...there is no data backup. You can only burn wav files onto a CD-R/RW disc thus creating an audio CD.

Stilo, data back up was not there from the beginning. I think it was advertised as a pending function. The first OS, you can only use it as a CD player or CD/DVD Rom drive.
A later OS gave it audio CD burning. As of OS 1.2, that is all it can do. If OS 1.21 added only a bug fix, than it still can only burn audio CDs.

Really? I thought I remembered you guys talking about only being able to save data to CDs, but not writing audio back then. Sorry.

Well, that would be easy if the manual said anything about the CD drive. Apart from the additional audio CD burning in the 1.1 release notes there's nothing.
\E: Just looked it up again, the reading capability is actually in the original manual
Still I'm sure I remember hearing something about data writing...oh well...

You are right about reading about data backup on CD. They advertised it but it is a feature that is suppose to be coming.

They might actually expand the possibilities of the CD drive in the future.
But you probably only have an advantage if you're out of your studio with no PC at hand. And given the ridiculous price of the CD drive, I would think twice if I really needed it. As long as you don't, just wait, you can always get it later.

Yeah i remember someone asking about this before.
If the MPC is permanently in the studio i dont see the point of the drive just yet.
Will have to see what capabilities it gains with future updates though
