Yeah...I would post your findings to JJ..

Unless you want to post it here giving other users a detailed step by step guide to reproducing what you perceive as a 'bug'.

PS...JJ needs to complete the OS they started first before trying to improve another.

well, here is the step by step.

1) work on music with the mpc for a few hours, sequence etc...

2) then, decide its time to save, so choose "save entire memory"

3) navigate to the place you want to save on your hard drive, hit "create" new folder.

instant freeze. step 1 is important, its as though the sleeping hard drive causes the freeze.

What memory and hard drive to you have installed in your MPC? Also, which OS are you using?

Are you saving sequences, sounds, and programs....or are you using just MIDI?

I never knew the 2500 had this problem in the first place. So, you had this problem before, it went away, and then it came back with the latest OS?

I had this happen once in the past where I tried to create too many sub folders...folders, within folders. I no loner do that anymore. Is this your problem?

jahrome, what is your limit with subfolders?

i got into a habit of creating a new folder from my mac (usb). last night i tried directly onto the MPC HD and it froze. i said it came back, i should ve said it didn't go away.

yes the problem has been present since day one, since i bought the unit. latest OS version.

maybe 3rd or 4th directory.

Honestly, I don't know exactly. But like Akido, I had about 3 or 4 levels of subfolders, which caused my MPC to crash. After that, I only use one folder per track. No subfolders. But since this seems to be an issue, I will play with this during the long weekend.

So Akido, you are actually creating folders on your Mac/PC then moving them to the 2500 to load? Tell me exactly what you are doing so I can see if I can produce the same problem. I am using a PC though. I am not smart enough for a Mac.

yes, and it works. its a workaround since its possible that the mpc will freeze when i create it directly from it to the internal HD.

I just created a bunch of folders within folders. I created folder A, inside folder A, I created B, inside B, I created C....so on and so forth until I got to F. Then I saved a bunch of sequences and samples to each of these folders. No problems so far. OS1.22.

yeah, i can also.

it seems that it happens only after a long time that the MPC is turned on. like as if the HD is sleeping, and creating a floder freezes the whole mpc because of the HD waking up?!?!!

Ok. I would be pissed off if you tried to stuff a bunch of stuff in my face when I just woke up as well.....

This is definitely an issue that needs addressing. However, it was stated earlier that the best thing to do is to ALWAYS create a new folder or folders BEFORE you start working in order to avoid this problem. Yes, we can't change reality, just gotta dela with it!
