320 GB Hard Drive for MPC2500 - anyone done this all ready?

I doubt anyone has over 10gbs... Thats just insane.

I have about 450 albums in my Zune and its a little over 10gbs but those are full tracks. I doubt anybody is gonna have that much space.

I mean you even got pioneers like Dj Premier who work with floppys and has been working with his MPC for over a decade. I could just imagine him having thousands of floppys if he had over a few gigs of stuff.

I've owned my first MPC since 2000 and I don't even have 10GB's worth of shit. And I know there's people that have done more beats than me in that time, but 320GB worth is a stretch. Not to mention the ease of backing up to MAC/PC makes it even more of a waste. Even if you have that much shit on there, it would probably be a pain in the ass to search. I wonder if the MPC can even read past a certain amount of files. It would take TONS of 8 bar loops to fill that.

Personally I think the limiting factor is the amount of RAM because (as far as I understand it) you can not stream from the hard drive. If you could I could imagine using much longer audio tracks, more real remixing work, multi part almost the length of the entire track etc and I could quickly fill almost any size of drive. With each project being limited to 128MB of samples, most probably often using the same samples as other projects, with a bit of management just a few GB is likely to be more than sufficient.

I am yet to transfer my sounds to my HD, but out of around 100gigs worth on my pc about half will be compatible with the MP. So yeah, 50gig is overkill but if I can store 15 years worth of collected sounds I will!

There's the rub right there... and because you cannot you are indeed limited by the RAM 128 MB doesn't make this box a HD recorder...

yep 120GB er 160GB is prolly the limit with more room then necessary!
