"But you already had an MV, right? It's a nice combination with the 4000."

All you need a drum machine to do is make drum sounds and sequence correctly. AN MV and an MPC4000 isn't a combination, it's complete overkill.

No, it isn't. I have an MV-8000. It's a nice combination. If you can't handle both, then it is overkill for you alone.

It is unnecessary to use the same gear every day. A beginner thinks it has to be used all the time or something is wrong. Gear can sit idle for months at a time and then be used for a project. Or it might used one time for a special project and then never again.

Anyone using an MV-8000 and an MPC-4000 together is not telling the truth or just have nothing better to do with their money. If I stuck with my MPC-4000, it would be stupid of me to get an MV-8000 to fill any voids. Now if you had an MV-8000 and wanted to get an MPC to fill the voids...I would get an MPC 60/3000. An MPC 4000 would be pretty much overkill.

You don't have to use them together to get your use out of them. They only have to be owned and used as necessary. Think of a studio with instruments as tools, not things you necessarily use all the time and every day. People impose their own self limitations by downsizing their studios because they are overwhelmed by the equipment possibilities. The trouble isn't within the equipment or owning it. It's all within yourself.

I really do feel you but...

If I had an MPC 4000, there is no way that I would spend $2000 (even with the extra cash I have ready to throw away) on an MV to get real time timestretch and 8 audio tracks. Not when you can get a Fantom X for the same price and have the same tools at the MV. Or for a guy like me that uses Nuendo..that has real-time time stretch..I can dump my timestretched samples from Nuendo directly into the MPC 4000s RAM. With a few clicks of a mouse. There are better ways to spend money..even a gear slut like me knows this

Owning the MV isn't about those two features only. It's about the VGA, linear sequencing, better effects, and a long list of other things. You're trivializing a complex instrument into just audio tracks and time stretching as advantages.

yeah, maybe the mv isn't overkill when you consider that the mv is the same price as the 2500

at one point in my life i was so sure i was going to get an mv. i read all the forums, stayed up late reading the manual one night, and then wen down to the shop to bang on one...and it drove me nuts. just the time it took to create a new project was enough to make me think again...and again. i ended up with an mpc and i'm a happy camper but i still sorta wish that the mv and i had gotten along because it has so many more features than the mpc...

Not really. Owning an MPC 4000 and then buying an MV for the VGA, and better effects?? I think not. If I were using an MPC 4000, a smarter purchase would be the Roland Fantom X, which is actually cheapers than the MV and has all those 'advantages' you speak of.

In fact, I am seriously considering another workstation. I am tired of the Triton Studio so I am looking for something else. I already have the rack versions of the Fantom and Motif..so I am looking at the Kurzweil joint...looked at the Alesis Fusion, but got quickly turned off.

You know most of you are here because you want that MPC 2500

but i hear you, a battery would be the move. more so than an HD IMO.

I think it is a grave act of reduction to think of anyone on these boards as an 'economical man' ready to go out get an MV just beacuse, in sense, it is the rational choice i.e. more bang for buck.

Other things need to be taken into consideration when someone goes shopping for a workstation. MPCs quickly become everybody's favorite jawn. You can't throw an Akai out the house too easy. It's like a favourite t-shirt. Add to this the general familiarity of the OS and design etc..

I don't know prosoumers.

Nothing of this of course has any correlation to what I said before thus my arguments are vague at best.
