I saw the same thing as well. That's why I would hope you can burn CDs sometime in the future. But anyway, the 2500 is still in it's infancy and who knows what lies in the future OS updates. The 1k is about to make a quantum leap in the next OS (2 years after it's release), so I'm sure there's gotta be room for improvement with the 2500 somewhere down the line as well.

AKAI is got something out of synch. It looks like they forgot to change the website, which is no surprise considering how it gets updated last. Which brochure do you have? The "New Product 2005" brochure mentions an "optionally available CD-ROM drive". The "Available accessories" section also lists a CD-ROM drive. I think they were trying to figure out this part of the design near the end and went with the CD-ROM instead of the CD-RW either due to cost (and development time), or because it would be one more reason not to buy the 4000 if the CD-RW was included on the 2500.

I have the MPC 2500 0verview brochure. I received it around the same time that I received my 2500. If memory serves me correct, the Akai Japan site never mentioned CDRW drive but the US site as well as the brochure I have does have the CDRW listed.

Akai English brochure:

The AKAI USA site has both the CD and the CD-RW. They just forgot to remove the CD-RW portion. They are shipping the CD-M25, not a CD-RW25.

From the USA website:

Well, this all goes back to what I mentioned earlier. If they ship the CD-M25, which will be going for $200 approx, and later follow that up with a CDRW version...that would really disappointing to the people that bought the CD-M25. I can throw away money like that because that is what I do But I don't think many other potential customers would like that. If memory serves me correct, this is the same thing that happened with the MPC 4000. It didn't burn CDs initially. But the only difference is that the MPC 4000 uses standard IDE drives that are cheap. As of the current MPC 2500 OS 1.00, standard IDE drives do not work with 2500

i can't get a refund because it was an eBay purchase and apparently it is being shipped now

i have the 1000 and got the 2500 because of zoning and timestretch..

but after looking at the upcoming 1000 update, i guess my purchase was sorta redundant.

i'm still debating on whether to keep the 2500 or sell it when it arrives

Hmm I don't know where to place teh 2500.. It's not like looking at an E-, C- or S-class Benz. It's clear Akai do not have a clear strategy for differentiating their machines.

What's so hard about placing the 2500. With the exception of the MPC 4000, the MPC 2500 has practically every function that has ever been in an MPC and then some.
