i had some cheap radio shack midi cables that were 12 or 15ft they really slowed my midi response on my rack gear, when i bought a shorter cable(same cheap radio shack kind) the problem went away. it could have been a faulty cable i am not really sure so i just stuck with the shorter midi cables and haven't had that problem sense. yeah electricity travels fast but midi data only travels on two of the five prongs of a midi cable the other three are rarely ever used. the notes and control data are sent down the midi cable one at a time even when you hit multiple keys at the same time so in theory the longer the cable and the more data that is being transfered the slower all the data is going to get where it is suposed to go resulting in missed notes or notes that are slightly out of timing.
