yes and no. I said that shit mainly to get attention to this thread in case akai is browsing.

However, Its a main feature I use all the time.

****, If the detect tempo doesnt work that good in timestretch..........then what else is there to use if the tap tempo doesnt work????

every once in a while on the mpc4000 or 2xl the detect tempo didnt work good..........but the tap tempo was always acurate, its the whole point in having it, to tap to your samples!

Its one of the reasons I like the mpc. Come on akai??

basically for me it interrupts work flow. Its how i got down on the other mpcs. Its definately a reason i would say to not purchase it and to purchase one of the other mpcs.

What is the purpose of hitting the pads and using tap tempo at the same time? Is there really a need for this?

Patched Phrase tempo is calculated in the Trim menu. When you create a sequence with one, it follows any tempo changes..including tap tempo.

Although the 2500 needs another OS update (mainly for the MIDI bug), I am really curious to hear your thoughts of why this function should be improved.

alot of us dont use patched pharse or any of those auto matic chopping features.

I only use the zones or extract sample functions. I dont use patched phrase to chop my samples. The chop shop detect is fine for drum loops, but if you are choppin musical phrases you need to adjust the slice points. ALot of the time my chops are not exactly equal. So i use the equal zones then adjust accordingly.

you have to tap with the samples because sometimes you might only use 1/3 of the beginning of one sample, and 1/2 of another sample, etc. and those samples might be from differant sources and have differant tempos.

Sometimes one sample might be lets say 90 bpm, and another be 75 bpm. Well the entire loops dont match in tempo, but the first 2 notes of the 75 bpm might match a groove at 86 bpm and then the last 3 notes of the 90 bpm might match as well............if you cant tap with the pads youd have a harder time finding that groove..and half the time you are experiementing so patch phrase interrupts that.

tapping with the samples is all about experiementing with differant grooves, differant sample combinations, and doing it quickly so you dont loose the workflow. Hope this helps?!

I don't think it's that accuarate anyway. I'm sure they'll fix it in the next update but the BEST way to find the exact tempo is to assign the sample to a pad then place it at the first step in the sequence and change the tempo with the data wheel until it loops perfectly.

This is THE most accurate way and really doesn't take much longer.

try doing that with 12 chopped up parts

yeah, looping it like that is easy and more acurate......but only if you are jackin complete loops, but what if its 3/4 of a bar? what if you want to finish your whole loop with some other sample to make it a whole bar?

With the tap tempo you should be able to tap 2 or 3 times to the sample, figure out its bpm as if it was a whole bar, place it in the track, then its sync'd to the right tempo. Otherwise you are just finding the bpm relative to the sample length. If its 3/4 of a bar and its sync'd to the right tempo, there should be 1/4 of a bar of blank space afterwords.............you need tap tempo for that!

I hope you are right and they fix it in the next os update.

Im still lost as to why you need to hit a pad to do this. This doesnt seem like anything's broken to me. *shrug*

I dont think you understand, he's not on about needing a pad. Basically, when a sample is playing, hitting the tap tempo button in time with the sample will not change the tempo of the sequence, and it should.

So basically if a sample is playing the tap tempo will not work

You mean if you attempt to strike a drum pad while hitting the tap tempo button at the same time..the tempo will not change??

correct

sorry if i was confusing. but jarhome hit it right on the head.

plus even if you just alternate from a pad to the tap tempo it also doesnt work. Its like the tap tempo resets when you hit the pad again.

The only time it works is when you hit the pad, dont touch any pad again, and then just tap, you cant even hold down the pad and use it.

So the best alternative if this is a make or break issue:
A. Use the work arounds
B. Use a different MPC
C. Keep this MPC/Hope there is a future OS update to improve this function

I pray for number 3.

I guess in the grand scheme of things, this isnt a reason not to buy the mpc2500, cause this is something that can be worked around, but, if akai could fix it, it would be nice! plus it will help those 2xls with the transition.
