I believe it is mapped as a default in the way it is because they are holding on to tradition. I'm sure I read somewhere that the MPC60 was mapped this way.

grr that's what I'm, trying to do with my 61ES but the MPC will not relay anything through midi-thru

Is there anyway to test, within the MPC, wether MIDI signal is being received at all?
