Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

What's this risk everyone is talking about??? You install it, if you like it you buy it if you don't you reinstall the only one....everyone in here is talking like their mpc might burst into flames if they install it.

Personally I was a little bit dubious going to JJ because I thought it was mainly for the 1000 and the 2500 hadn't been developped, once version 5 came out I jumped on it...at first I had a few issues and switch back to the OG one for a day or 2 but when the next version came out everything was fine....personally I can't believe anyone who has tried JJ would switch back to the Akai one....if I switched back I'd probably get stressed and throw the mpc out the window.

I hated using the TRIM mode in the Akai OS, it was too tedious and difficult to get exactly what I wanted. With the JJ OS it makes it a breeze. Everyone should at least try the JJ OS (ITS FREE) & if you don't like it then revert back to the Akai OS.

It's funny you know...i just cannot get past the fact all these MPC 2500 users are paying money for something that they should have got in the first place...A fully stable working MPC.

JJ OS is an Akai OS no doubt, and why pay for it??? By supporting this 'pay for OS' attitude, Akai are just sitting back with smiles :P

Every 30 bucks ends up in Akai's cash box.

If it continues this way, the chances are that we won't see another official Akai OS on the akaipro website.

Why O Why??? :x

man think about what you're saying. do the math - like i said, nobody getting stinking rich with this os, especially not a company that sells MANY MORE high end pieces of audio. the money is going to the source - quite obviously, due to the fact that it's obvious the man is spending a LOT of time on this os. you think this guy is just sitting there and writing code and then handing off $30 a pop to akai?

and finally, most contradictory of all - you're talking about a company who sells RAM and cd writers for nearly 2x the purchasing price - often more. 30 dollars for an upgrade that's actually special is VERY out of character for akai.

Here's the link:

Download version 5. You can experiment with this OS as long as you like. You only have to fork over the duckets if you want to save your work.

For me, In the Akai OS, I couldn't get the start & end points where I wanted them and if I did it took forever. I also tried using the qlink sliders. To me, it wasn't seamless enough. With the JJ OS, I can get the points exactly where I want them in 2 seconds and the ZOOM is also way better. Plus CHOPSHOP is 10X or more better. This again was to me or my experience.

I'm not with you there either... obviously JJ cannot do what he does without support from Akai, that is software and in-depth information on the MPCs hardware. So it's more than likely that he is working for Akai.

And $30 is in my opinion a reasonably sized priced for something like an OS, which isn't a full software, and also not necessary to run the hardware, but a nice addition maybe. Also, if it proves true, Akai is just testing the waters with this, as it is the first time someone tries this as far as I know. It's not about getting rich, it's about testing the market.

So I have to support Groove66 in saying that the more people buy it, the higher the chances that you will see further non-free OSes.

I don't believe that JJ money goes to Akai as a company....however, I suspect that JJ is an employee/employees of akai making a few extra bucks in their spare time. I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if they were even the original programmers of the Akai OS....it could be that one day Akai said "OK, stop working on the 2500 os, we got something else we need to do" so the programmers who still had ideas on what they'd like to do took it home and worked on it in their own time. Then maybe someone at akai gave them the ok to make a few bucks for their efforts and charge for their work.

I'm probably well off the mark with that guess but I reckon it's a serious possibility....one day we might find out....or maybe we'll never know lol

Man I feel you on that

I've finally got some $$ to get the JJ os, but I'm just going to sit back and observe things for awhile...see how things play out after Messe.

Considering the JJ OS switch, still curious though, how do you actually switch back to Akai OS if your not satisfied?

Jahrome: Deceptive?
Jahrome ive noticed that in many of the threads concerning JJ's OS you were not the most supportive. I found it interesting that after sometime, even you have made the switch. I was like "Damn, Jahrome's on board"! I mean I felt like you made some very interesting opinions . I have to admit Im not one to conform for the sake of conformation, but maybe I should consider it. But one question though, you mentioned seeing the OS as "deceptive". Just wondering what you(r) meant/feelings were on that, if im reading you correctly. peace.

Deceptive? When the JJ OS surfaced, I suspected this was a way for Akai to start charging for OS upgrades, which is what Roland has done. I have nothing to support this besides the fact that they are letting someone make money off of their intellectual property rights. But I have always planned to test out the JJ OS just to prove to other forum members that it is not so easy to fix bugs in these operating systems without proper beta testers. The JJ OS has been filled with numerous bugs..way more than any Akai official OS. My take today is that having JJ do this unofficial work, takes heat off the company.

I always thought I had 64 already

MPCs generally do not have audio tracks. They have MIDI tracks that trigger internal samples, which is not the same thing. The continuous sample track is an audio track. But the Akai OS only provides one. The JJ OS provides 8 of these tracks.

Antonym wrote:

This is not accurate at all. The code of the JJ OS is not tidier than the Akai OS. Of course I am speaking of the MPC 2500. The JJ OS has more features, but it is still work in progress. Once JJ removes pong and start ironing out all the bugs without adding new ones...then it may be described as tidier.

But the JJ OS does not provide a fully stable working MPC.

Just reinstall it the same way you installed the JJ OS. Hold the [WINDOW] key while powering on.
