MPC 2500 DVD Update

Will this apply to the 1000 with jj?

I dont think so and hopefully its out soon its already february

UPDATE:

There were some problems with the production company, who basically lost a significant amount of footage (two entire cameras worth), which means a lot of re-filming is needed. At this point, completion of the DVD is entirely in the hands of Samplecraze, so I cannot comment on when it will be released.

Sorry about this - thought I'd better keep you all in the loop. I have seen the existing footage and it's great, so I'm sure something will be done with it once Samplecraze can sort out the missing footage. I'll leave it to Eddie to chirp in when he knows more about the situation.

Currently, I am going through hell with this particular company. It has cost me a small fortune and it seems I will either have to re-shoot most of the footage with another company (which I already did months ago and spent 8 months storyboarding the dvd) or I will have to reedit the material as individual downloads.

Personally, I would rather complete the dvd than compromise the content as a computer rom or downloads.

I am in the hands of the film company and this has been a fiasco both in terms of poor service, time and money.

I might ditch the whole project as it is not worth my time to pursue it any more.

I will think about this, get some more costings to complete the content and get back to you.

MY apologies for this but it has been completely out of my hands.

I suppose if you do plan to shoot you can hold out for the release of it much later.

Maybe instead of re-shooting footage you can shoot some material pertaining to JJ OS2 when it comes out.

That's a real snafu tho. But maybe you can take it as a good opportunity to work on OS2 material.

I already included the JJ material in one of the chapters.

The problem with these assholes is simple: I had 3 cameras being used, one was fixed on me, one on the mpc 2500 and the final one on it's screen.

Additionally, there was a lot of Camtasia (computer screen) footage for 2 of the most important chapers;
Connectivity which included how to hook up the mpc, the DAW, synths, keyboards, mixer etc and
Sync; which entailed master/slave with the mpc but with additional tracking of beats and so on.

The missing footage is of the mpc screen, ie the most important footage. My face footage was only to be used when there was little happening with the screen so losing that would not be an issue, but the mpc screen was the most important factor for this DVD.

I spent 3 days in some town 250 miles away working from 7 am to midnight each night, all of it filming only to find out, 2 weeks later, that 7 chapters of the screen footage was 'missing'.

Someone explain to me how a professional company (so called on recommendation) can either forget to have a cartridge in the DV Cam or erase it somehow because it's beyond my comprehension?

This is the problem.

To complete this DVD I would have to re-shoot the missing footage and every company is quoting the same money as the initial entire project budget because they have to set up a studio, the cameras, lighting, green backdrops and 2 guys working the rigs.

Unless I can find a company that will do this project for sensible money or take a view etc then I am stuffed and will either have to edit the footage myself and have them as downloads or ditch the whole thing and put it down to experience.

The point of this being completed as a DVD was for certain agreements I had in place, notably Sound On Sound magazine taking exclusivity on the product and it being a joint Sos/Samplecraze release.

Additional expenditure is not worth it as the revenue returned will not be enough to warrant the kind of money I need to spend to make this work.

I am open to any suggestions you guys may have, so fire away.

Knock it up to experiance and have it as down load. That way you can add to it, as and when you want.

Get some thing out to the punters you can release each chapter whens its done

dvd is dead. waste of time, money, mental effort and overall resources.

tutorials such as this belong online. put up a couple of examples for free, to test the waters, then refine the content & approach based on user feedback.

then expand the series and sell it through the SOS shop on a click-n-buy model (same as sos articles), allowing individual chapters to be purchased at a low price (be sure to have youtube teasers of all chapters available free) with a discount for buying the set (offer incentives from in the form of sound packs).

analyse sales to determine what needs additional coverage - end up with the definitive mpc guide, which THEN could be offered as a dvd, if people really feel the need (you could run polls on here and sos, but my money says high-quality avi files would be most peoples choice)

We cannot sell these as downloads on Sos, only as a DVD, for a number of reasons.

I think a computer rom is the only way forward, or the downloads, as the quality is still not up to par for a DVD with Samplecraze/Sos names on it.

Trailers of the whole content plus smaller trailers of chapter content was decided on at the start.

there were a lot of delays, the usual chorus of moaners and i think tony wishes he never started the project! at the final hour he reshot a lot of footage and found a quicktime output setting that was up to his standards, so in the end put the whole thing up for download to those who pre-ordered. i wasn't one of them - I was waiting to see what the feedback was - it seemed largely positive
