You cannot use the ChopShop function on a stereo sample!!!!

I think its insane that the chopshop doesnt work on a stereo sample. It's the year 2005 we're living in ppl, cmon... I dont think its crazy to assume that it will. I would definatley be dissapointed with that shit.

As far as beta testers, they get user manuals. I had to figure this thing out with a Japanese manual. Can you read Japanese?? I think not..nor do I. The Japanese have a hard time reading Japanese.

So if I had a readable manual, I would have easily found this out. But for someone using the function without a manual, you would not know that the stereo sample you chopped only uses the left channel. As I pointed out earlier, the MPC sends the chopped sample to the L/R outpouts as a stereo sample. So no..you can not hear the difference..smart azz

Its all good though. At least I have posted what I found.

do you mean that it only uses the left channel for hit detection, or does it convert stereo samples to mono before chopping?

It just takes the left channel for slicing. Again, I would have never heard/noticed anything if it wasn't pointed out.

You may not know what you are talking about.

I wrote that it sent the sample out a a stereo sample through both the Left and Right stereo outs. It does the same thing when you send it to individuals outs..it will send it to a pair such as outputs 1 and 2. So it is very easy to miss. Now if you sample from vinyl, you may possibly catch this because the left and right channels may be different.

Now with older MPCs, it may be easier to catch. With older MPCs, MONO samples are routed to an individual Out while stereo samples are routed to a pair of outs.

1. kick
2. snare
3. hi hat
4. open hat
5. percussion
6. 808
7. bass
8. chopped samples

yall who never owned a mpc 2000 with 8 outs are like "Huh?!"
and unless you samplin records so you can flip the l or r channel why u cryin? even if we all got mv8000s and left akai bankless roland aint ready to control and record a synth while you tweekin in the track.......

correct me if i'm wrong... but on the s950... you can only sample mono... with one line in on the front but can use a splitter to bring in the full signal. Can the same be done here?

I'm thinking... I can sample directly into pro tools in stereo, save it in the right format to pass through to the mpc via the usb connection. Annoying work around but chop shop doesn't seem to hold a candle to the precision of ReCycle anyways. The view alone... its just so dynamic and precise in Recycle and you can tweak the sounds for detailed EQing.

My wife is Japanese, she had no problem explaining the book to me until I actually found an english version.

My wife is Japanese as well. She is better off handling some of my business duties that are non-technical. She is not interested in helping me read Japanese manuals..especially since I rarely ever touch English manuals for the same products.
