Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I started a little list of mine own to add to jahrome's list. Here we go:

1. When you press the track mute or next seq button it take you to that screen I think you should be able to press it again and it will take you back to the main screen like on the 2kXL.

2. q-link should be able to send cc controller data to use and record as a midi controller.

3. I now this has been mentioned all ready the user default save function for a sequence.

4. you also should be able to use a sample as a sound for the click track or metranome and you shoul be able to adjust the volume of it like the 2kXL.

not sure about this one i haven't fully tested this just noticed last night at 2:30 am but i loaded both of the same programs one in my 2kXL and one in my 2500. When i use the note repeat on the 2500 it starts out off beat for a millisecond then it repeats fine , when i check the sequence it is fine it records fine in contrary the 2kxl start the sample perfect and repeats it fine. I was curious if anyone with a 2kXL and a 2500 can test this side by side. It doesn't really effect my recording but if i play out live with my 2500 it would be nice to have this fixed. Sorry if not explained well.
check it out fam

For the price I think the MPC should have the power to be a multitrack recorder. Unless I am ill informed or forgot what the mpc can do, I think you should be able to do this. Am I wrong?

I'm really considering getting the 2500. I'm just not sure if it is capable of multitracking. I'd like to use it as a recorder to a computer. Appearantly the USB can't do it without plugging and unplugging. Seems strange with current technology out there. Why didn't they use firewire?

Just questions. I love mpcs...

Hm, what exactly makes you notice it starts offbeat?

I tested a little, and what i do notice is a slight "resonance" to the sound sometimes when i have say a kick drum running and layer the same kick drum (on another pad) over it with Note Repeat.

After recording it sounds fine most of the time, though sometimes the same effect occurs even in playback.

Now my 2000XL has that resonant sound all the time, and it still sounds like that after recording and playing back the sequence.

Stilo.

i mean the first couple of notes that are played on the 2500 when using note repeat are off for the first like two notes then they play fine. I mean a kick or a snare. Stilo if you have poly on and the sample is long enough or if you play the same note over each other you will be getting a voice overlap which will give it a flange or phaser sound is this what you are talking about,. I mean not the same notes playing with each other. if you prgram a beat (kick snare hi hats etc a beat with several tracks and then use a snare to do a snare fill if you were to copy the track and do the same thing on the 2500 as the 2kxl it is like the 2kxl starts on the next closest note set in the quantize field (still using note repeat) where the 2500 starts as soon as you press it and the first couple of repeat are off. I noticed this on 1/16 and 1/32 not on 1/8. I am going to test this more in depth right now. I also had my 2500 sync and playing midi tracks where my 2kxl is not.

Yes, though i think this is rather an indication that the two sounds are slightly out of phase... like DJs use as an effect with two of the same records and carefully varying the offset between both.

The first couple of repeats?

I tried it again, but i can't reproduce it. At least it must be such a subtle effect that i don't hear it

But, did you say you just tried that with a MIDI track on your 2500?
That's a whole different story then...

Stilo

This feature need to have top priority.

Other than tweaking the currect OS so that it performs flawlessly...here is my list of features that I would like to see in a future OS upgrade (in no particular order):

1. Multiple Continuous sample tracks (16 minimum). Allow the audio in these tracks to follow tempo changes in realtime. Allow Patched Phrases to be assigned to these Continuous sample tracks.
2. Recording/streaming samples directly to/from hard disk
3. Enhanced effects/dynamics (EQ for each sample). Effect Presets.
4. MTC sync
5. Expanded sequencer (300,000 notes per sequence..just because)
6. Data compatibility w/ all Akai S/MPC formats, and Roland/Emu CD Roms
7. Sample editing: Resampling, coverting stereo-mono, and mono-stereo
8. CD burning: Data back up and Audio CD recording
9. Screen Saver
10. Quantization: Place note shift back in the Timing Correct Menu
11. Recordable track mutes
12. Auto assign of samples to program upon loading
13. Auto Chromatic Assignment
14. Display levels when sampling 2500 outputs
15. Aksys Software for the 2500
16. Sample slice: generate sequence data for sliced samples (slightly different than Patched Phrase).
17. Better implementation of USB (pain in the azz plugging/un-plugging USB cables )

The MPC 2500 could be perfect with these added functions I can use the 2500 just fine without these functions....but having these functions will take it to another level.

I got one more...

18. Data compatibility: REX and Acid file support

One more plug to fix the 'bug' with MIDI OUTs C and D immediately. (the #1 reason why I have the 2500 in the first place  ).....I would take this fix over the Rex/Acid file support

doesn't Akai have secret workers who frequent this site? Also--Jahrome have you submitted these requests to Akai?

Yes, there are Akai employees that frequent the site as well as some forum members that have contacts.

I have not submitted any requests for additional features for these reasons and because they need to fix what is reported issues. In addition to that...I don't believe any of the OS programmers live in the US. Hopefully someone who knows this information will jump in and confirm this or correct my assumptions.

Has it been 3 months since the 2500 came out? What is the 3 month word on the monster?

I got another one....

I would like the ability to give names to external programs. Currently, when you set a given track to an external PGM (program), the 2500 will display No.1, No. 2, etc. I want the ability to input the name of the external prorgam/patch and let the MPC 2500 retain these names.

Even better, it will be nice if there was a way to let the MPC know that a specific synth was attached to it..and the names of the patches will load automatically. This is similar to importing patch scripts in software sequencers.
