Half true. I bought my MPC for making music and also talking about it here in the forums :D

Honestly, I don't think the MPC 1000 having the exact same OS as the 2500 will hurt the 2500s sales. Of course, there will be many that want the lower cost MPC. But not everyone is concerned with cutting costs or strapped for cash. Just as many people like the bigger real-estate on the 2500s as well as all the other MPCs. If I was Akai, I would add these features to the 2500 and even increase the price....I would sell them at $1200 including the memory and hard drives.

What I see Akai doing is further upgrading the OS of both units. As we send all the bugs reports in for the 2500, this will help make sure that the MPC 1000s next OS (which will have more of the 2500s features) more solid. After they update the 1000....then they drop the next OS for the 2500 additing a few more enhancements...this is just me speculating....

But the bottom line is that why spend up to $1000 or something that will break. I have been hustling used MPCs for years. I have had MPC 2000s that were put through hell and still the pads to break and need repair. I can't see why MPC 1000 users are not making a bigger fuss....

very true, but what we're talking about is advancing the quality and capabilities of an mpc. if cavemen stayed in their caves using rocks to occasionally kill animals, rather than realising that cracking bits off it to leave a sharp edge would enable them to cut down trees and thus make housing in formerly uninhabitable areas, then we wouldn't be here today, having a conversation on an internet forum, would we? (goes back to cave to bang rock against own head. ug!)

nah i agree with you that the 1k is badly made, and we shouldn't put up with it, but, in your speculative world, if the only difference is the number of outs, the number of q-links, the size and the price, then the people the do get the 2500 will be pros with oodles of cash, or amateurs with oodles of cash, and it doesn't make something better, the fact that some rich c*nt has bought something.

Spending a few hundred dollars to a thousands dollars is not oodles of cash.

You may not believe that the added hardware is not worth the added money..but it is..at least to me. Its about quality. Yes, I prefer an adjustable screen then having to prop up my MPC. I prefer to have additional audio outs for connecting to my mixers. Having a CDR/DVD Rom drive for loading, saving, sampling, etc is indepensible. The Q-link sliders and knobs and the size of the 2500 make it ergonomically superior. It is worth the extra money for some/many. These things do make the 2500 better. It will always be better since there is no reason (besides cost) for anyone considering an MPC to choose a 1000 over a 2500.

Apart from the portability debate, but then when people were making out how much smaller the 1k was i was expecting the 2500 to be a real shed.

But to be honest i'd have no problem lugging it around and if you were gigging with it, the added robustness and build is worth the extra cost

People have been lugging around MPCs for a long time..even before quite a few forum members were even born...

yeah, i'm in agreement with you Jahrome, i like quality and will fork out extra for it. the portability aspect of the 1k makes it good for me, but i think maybe that is it's only strong point over the 2500. i may well get one to have set up at home and then use the 1k out and about.

I bet that they are done with adding features to the 1000. I'm not expecting an update for my 4000 either although some people would disagree with that.
It doesn't make business sense to keep outputing new free OS's for old products. If they do nothing but update old stuff for free, they'll go out of business like they almost have 2 times in the last 10 years. If I did nothing but work old projects over and over for free, my business would die. I want to see them stick around. I want to see an MPC5000 and then a 6000, hell a MPC10,000 would be awesome, I could have it cook, give massages and get me beers....
The 4000 came out in 2003 or something, I doubt the engineers who worked on it are even still around, they tend to turn over pretty quickly. I'm cool with my 4000 as is, I've made my money off it. I'm liking the new mute groups on my 2500 and the bugs have gone way down in the OS (my MIDI outs work). I'm able to work and make money so if there are updates good, if not who cares. The 1000 is half the price so it should be half as good and half as durable. It's more disposable at $1,000. They don't need a 1000XL, people can upgrade to a 2500.

Since the MPC 1000 and 2500 practically share an identical OS....I seriously doubt that the 1000 will not receive further updates. Upgrading the 1000 can only increase sales.

As far as businesses...businesses restructure and get purchased by bigger companies everyday. Akai is am important company and been around for a long time. I doubt MPCs are going away any time soon. We may just get that MPC 5000 next year or so...

I would be really interested if akai came out with a MPC 5000. I would think about getting it for sure.

$1300 for a maxxed out new black 1000 is a big difference to me than $2500 for a maxed out 2500 (guitar center prices anyway), given the closeness on O.S. operation and the nice compact size of the 1000 which is a plus for me.

The real deal, given the price difference that made me go for the 1000 over the 2500 is that is $1200 less for me to find out if I like the whole mpc deal again (I used to have the 60 and 3000 years back).

If the computer still wins my time, then the 1000 is a great gigging/travel machine that will be of great value (and fun) for me and for that use only, is better than the 2500 mainly for size reasons. (my akai bag just arrived and it will also nicely fit my laptop and accessories).

If the mpc takes over my life, then I can easily sell my 1000 and upgrade to the 2500. Or keep it for travel/gigs too.

Also, if the whole sampling/sequencing in a box bug really bites me, I will have to take good hard look at the mv-8000 as it appears to kill the 2500 for less cost.

A maxed out $2500 is just under $2100.

You catz need to hit the gym and quit talking about portability. Before the 1000 dropped..nobody was talking about I can take my MPC to a gig because its too big.

But its cool...keep your pencil arms and play in the sand box with the 1000. You guys remind me of the catz that avoided the free weight bench press in high school..messing around with those machines :D

Anyway...its wrap. Buy an MPC 1000 if you are strapped for cash..or you don't want to admit that you have a lack of funds..say that you purhased the 1000 because of portability (when the rest of the MPC users..60,2000, 2500, 3000, and 4000 continue to lug them around with no problems  )

Its not about having the money or not, its about how to spend it. Bottom line, the 2500 might look nice in place of my command station, but the 1000 is going to the beach with me with the money I didn't waste on the 2500.

I'm kidding (not about the mv though). I like how emphatic you get about your 2500. (and for what it's worth, I don't remember anyone not complaining about lugging a 60 around in a flight case).

That is a lot of (*)(*&! But I have been at it for a while. Music? Yeah, not much, but some here (I am working on a website to up in a few weeks )

I will be the first one to admit my productivity is low, but I have a lot of things going on. I hope to break some of the block with the mpc.
