nah the second link i posted was to do with soldering surface mount components, which is a bit tricky to do, but still doable. i've taken apart other lcd screens with led backlights before, they're not as intergrated as you'd think. basically there's a layer of glass which is usually clipped or soldered to the main board, and under that a 'light box' which consists of some leds and a diffusion layer to spread the light more evenly before it passes through the lcd.
of course this is speculation that the MPC's screen is the same, but i'd like to think it's doable.
