is this true? on the akaipro website I only see a promotion for a free memory upgrade when you purchase the 500.

apparently it seems that dell has this teac product because they use or used it on laptops...
this could be a good way to find one
but price is really totally different from one site to another
and i checked with a computer store, it is no longer referenced! in france though!
anyway i've had no problems finding the hd, cf and mem!
why not a cd writer now?

Just did the mod on the DW224E that I got on ebay for $50.00
I also used a watch flathead screwdriver and pushed pin 47 all the way back.
WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!!!

For example;

DW224E-AT4
DW224E-A35

Will any of these work?

can someone snap a pic of this "pin 47" and the connector?

I got a dw-224-T1

and it doesnt appear to be working. When i turn the mpc on, it spins up and everything, but i cannot access the teac or my hard drive.

Hopefully I didnt pull the wrong pin. Looking at it from the back, right side up, second pin from the left on the top row.

You are correct. Make sure you pushed it ALL THE WAY IN!!!!!!!! Or in your case pull it all the way out.

I don't have a Hard Drive in mine YET so it works fine without the pin disabled....
But THANKS HEAPS for the info on how to modify the DW-224 for my future hard drive install.

i just bought mine for 50€ shippin included , i hope it will work
i would feel safer if someone would post a pic of the right pin to push tho.
I think i understood but my technical english is not that good so im always scared to misunderstand...

Jahrome, I might look like a noob as I don't post around here, but I've been an MPC head since 1999 and read stuff on here over the years...

I recently bought a 2500 second-hand, fully-stuffed except for the CD. Since I've built computers, I thought I'd at least try it with a slimline laptop drive I have lying around. It's a Panasonic CW-8123-B CDRW/DVDROM, 2MB cache, +5V @ 2A, and has a funky little mini-ATAPI connector.

I hope to try it out later today and will post back. I pulled it out of a test mini PC where it has worked fine sharing a cable with a 2.5" hard drive.

What (non-Teac) model did you say you had..?

Well I fitted it easily enough and it all booted ok (thankfully - I'd have been really pissed if I fried the power supply or something..!).

I could still access the hard drive fine, but I could not see the CD.

I tried with both audio CDs and sample CDROMs.

Next I'll try with the forced slave mod.

Btw are those pins so TINY?? Man, Im lookin now and i barely can see the division between em! I hope i wont fuk the drive tho....

No success with that first drive.

So I got a DW224E off ebay and tried with and without pin 47. It won't boot past the memory check screen although the drive itself spins up ok and can load and eject CDs properly. But then I realise that this is an HP DW224E and not a Teac DW224E. They look basically the same - but perhaps they are quite different inside? Any idea?

So it looks like the MPC is still fussy about which CD drive you use, even knowing the cable select SLAVE trick.
