uh fellas, just curious to know, if we are to believe inthis machine why is it not compatible with the MPC4K in any way? i might be wrong but it seems suspect.

Cause its built on the design of the mpc1000 and not the design of the 4000. You can see that from the specs.

But akai is weird... how can they not actually have machines thats 100% COMPATIBLE with each other.

perhaps cuz they got taken over like 2 or 3 times and the new ceos dont give a shit? the 1000 and the 4000 arnt compatible either. Was a reason alotta ppl didnt get a 1k to make shit on the road and lateron load it on their 4k

check the pic. you can clearly see where the power cord would go and what looks like 2 outs. where are the other 8 outs? other than that i think the pic looks real but that makes it real suspect. where else would they be besides the back panel?

Not sure why people think it would be compatible with the 4000 or Z programs... theres no Z engine in it! It would need the power to handle all of what the Z engine has to offer to be able to make use of the programs, otherwise they would sound completely different when switching. That is why the 1000 is not directly compatible with the 2000, some features did not carry down (even though they could have if they wanted, but then nobody would buy the better model).

At this point it looks fake to me. I mean Akai just went through the trouble of changing everything in their brand to blue (lots of companies do this and stick to one look with all their gear). Could change now that ownership has changed, so I guess its possible. It is true that the 2000 is a well dated product and is using OLD technology. This isn't much of an update though. Seems like its taking the newer technology from the 1k and slapping it on the 2k along with a few OS improvements. So it would at least be an improvement by replacing the existing XL with this. I don't see any reason for anyone with an existing 2k to upgrade to this if it is released. If you are starting or upping from 1k, would make sense. As mentioned earlier, seems way overpriced... however I think the 2k is WAY overpriced already. It costs more than it did years ago and is just getting older. I'd rather get a used 4k for the same price and finally get a real full featured sampler.

The joint doesnt need a z-engine to be compatible....

You just rock 16bit 44.1khz snd/wave and write a workaround in the 4k os so it would convert the pgm into the drum tracks or keyranges.....

I could care less but I know it's been a disapointment to some ppl I make beats with..

i asked why they didn't mention anything about this during NAMM and they told me that they didn't want to reveal anything during development. the 2500 is not in development anymore. it's in production. they will unveil it this year and by the time the next NAMM arrives, the 2500 will be on shelves.
