I'm trying to Update my OS from Akai 1.22 to 1.23
I have an Akai 128MB MPC Sound Library Flash Card.

I followed the directions Akai has on their site.

Put the CF Card in the MPC, turned it on. Hit Mode, then Load Pad. Hit F4 USB. Connected the USB cable to my MPC. The CF card showed up on my computer as MPC Disk (E)

When I drag the MPC2500.bin file on the drive, it gives me this error.

The Directory or File can not be created

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Is it because I'm using the CF Card that cmae with the MPC? Do I have to get another CF Card to Update the OS?

Also, when transfering files from your PC to the MPC, do you have to do with the CF Card or will your computer recoginze the MPC's internal hard drive too?

Thanks!

you have to select the CF card before connecting to the PC via USB. Then it will give you access to the CF card. Check if it has enough space. I beleive you could only flash using the CF card not the HD.

***How to copy OS bin file to CF with MPC2500 and Computer

*Required Equipment: Compact Flash (CF), USB mass storage class supported computer (Windows XP/ME/2000 or Mac OSX, OS9.x)
1. Download the file MPC2500_v123.ZIP from our website to your computer
2. Your browser should automatically unzip the file and you should have a file called MPC2500.bin on your computer (if it does not, you will need to unzip the downloaded file using Winzip [PC] (http://www.winzip.com), or Stuffit Expander [Mac] (http://www.stuffit.com)
3. Insert Compact Flash into the MPC2500
4. Switch the MPC2500 ON
5. Go to LOAD mode [MODE + PAD2], then press USB [F4]
6. Connect a USB cable between PC and the MPC2500 (display will change from Status=Not Connected to Status=Connected)
7. Your PC/Mac will mount the CF card of the MPC2500 as a drive on your computer
8. Copy (drag) OS .bin file onto the CF card's ROOT DIRECTORY (ie: DO NOT PLACE IN ANY FOLDER)
9. Once the file has been copied, safely dismount the MPC from your computer, and disconnect the USB cable

>>>How to update MPC2500

!!! NOTE: DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE MPC2500 WHILE IT IS UPDATING THE OS !!!

1. Power the MPC OFF (leave the CF card in the MPC)
2. Press and hold down the [WINDOW] button on the MPC while, you power the MPC back ON (this will launch the OS Bootloader)
3. The MPC should show you a screen which reads:

====== MPC2500 OS UPDATE ======

File: MPC2500.bin

4. Press DO IT [F6]
5. The MPC should now start the OS update (it will first erase the Flash ROM and then write the new OS to Flash ROM)
6. Once the OS Update is complete the MPC will automatically restart itself
7. Power OFF the MPC and wait 30 seconds
8. Power ON the MPC while holding down the [ERASE] button (this will reinitialize the MPC)
9. Again...it is recommended that you format your internal hard drive, and then reload your files back

i got it hooked up.

Access to: Memory Card

I have 29.9 MB free space on 128 MB Memory Card.
The MPC2500.bin file is 756 KB

So, I have the space.

It says
Copy (drag) OS .bin file onto the CF card's ROOT DIRECTORY (ie: DO NOT PLACE IN ANY FOLDER)

I don't see the ROOT Directory on the Memory Card on my MPC DISK (E:)
when i double click on it, the only files that show up are .wav and program files
