Can I install an OEM cd/dvd drive?

As the title states... can I install an OEM laptop cd/dvd drive or do I have to buy the Akai drive?

Good question. Hopefully an expert will answer.

I know these work in the 2500's. I got one of these, not installed it yet though, going to collect the MPC in a second.

I just got one for my 2500. The only thing though is the CDM25 comes with a little mounting tab and a screw to secure it in the mpc with. The OEM drives don't and are only secured by the connector on the back so it's kinda got me worried it will fall out one day...

though I kinda feel scammed cause I thought I was getting the CDM25 for 85 dollars when really it's just a regular TEAC drive (without the akai mounting hardware) which with a little hunting you can usually find on ebay for around 30 dollars....

So any TEAC DW-244E cd/dvd drive will work with the 2500 and 5000? These do sell on Ebay for about $30 used, it's a great deal comparing to the $200 the Akai version.

80 bucks is a bit steep i think.

go to a local scrap computer shop and pick up a pile of old dvd drives. they could go for dirt cheap like maybe 5 bucks a piece.... because it isn't a burner. dvd burners are like 35 bucks brand new these days if that.


buy a bunch of different ones for like a couple of bucks each or check craigslist... maybe even a pc recycle place willl have a bunch to toss your way. get a few different brands and test them all out. guaranteed one will work out of several... instead of paying some crazy price for one drive. then if more then one you picked up work on the mpc, sell them on ebay as drives that work on the mpc for like 25 bucks or something.

Can anyone confirm this work on the 5000 with OS 2? Just bought a cd-drive (supposed to be original) from ebay to 89$ and it did not work and was not the akai one..
