Using Pro tools sequencer with 2500

I recently changed my work flow, where I use to sequence with my 2500. I had midi connections to external midi gear and would just produce. I now find it more convenient to sequence in pro tools and let the midi info in pro tools trigger my samples on my MPC.

I'm having one small problem. Lets say for example I have a sampled I recorded a kick and snare as midi into pro tools. No when I try to utilize the note repeat feature with for example a high hat it silences the kick and snare momentarily. I have no mute group enabled and this same method worked perfectly fine when I used the 2500 as the main sequencer. Any suggestions anyone?

Sounds like a possible polyphony issue! My suggestion would be to sequence in the MPC again!

I'm not really understanding. I have the 128 expansion chip. I'm not use many or even long samples. So where would polyphony come into play????

Maybe you are trying to record more midi notes than Pro Tools can playback at one time. Not sure, I've never used the Pro Tools sequencer. The RAM has nothing to do with polyphony.

Well cosmic pimp or what ever your name is I'm a professional produc/ereingeneer. I work with known artist. I'm just trying to figure out a new way of working. why have an MPC if your not gonna sequence on it?

Jayo22 that is the most sensible reply I got since I put this topic up. For a long time I asked the same question. I had all my gear midi connected to the 2500. I would sequence with the mpc, format into a song and then when done track it out I to pro tools. After years of doing this I realized I was limiting myself. Especially with the introduction of pro tools 8 and it's amazing way to handle midi I realized it's the best way to work. It's almost like I exploded my mpc open and all that information that was going on behind that tiny little 2500 screen I can see much larger and in more detail in in the pro tools midi editor window. I can't beleive bow much better it is to work this way. I can draw in notes. Fix a bad piano or any performance I played on my motif since I'm not a real musician. All this plus I still get to use the mpc the way I was. Using pads triggering samples, albe to get that mpc krunch! Still able to get that MPC swing. The only difference is that I hit record on pro tools instead of the 2500. I really was into this until I tried it. It also gives me the advantage to produce around a vocal performance. It really opened my eyes and took away the fear I had of midi editing.

So I guess no one still has an answer to the orignal post. Oh well Ill keep messing the answer even though I feel it's very simple. Will reveal it's self.

Aright, here's some possible answers:

1. Its likely the problem is in the sequencing in PT, if all the other variables (setttings) in the MP are the same as before, right? Try sequencing in PT a different way. Trigger all your sounds from one midi track, if you were trying to do them all separate. Or vise-versa. And it could be something as simple as overwriting note data by accident.

2. Keep in mind that the 2500 is mono-timbral. I'm not sure exactly how that will affect your situation, but I know you won't be able to trigger samples from multiple programs at once. I don't think you can even triggers samples from multiple tracks at once.

Thanks 3rd planet. I'll give that a try. I was triggering three different samples on three seperate midi tracks. I'll keep u posted.

i'm surprised that the note repeat button even works when you're using protools as the sequencer?

i'm not really surprised that it would cause some sort of midi glitch though. midi is a touchy thing. i find any time that i'm using midi at all with a program like protools or dp or logic that if i have a bunch of audio plug-ins running that it will cause my midi to run inconsistently.

just my 2 cents

honestly one possible work flow for you could be to use protools as your sequencer for most stuff except the mpc drums... you program them in the mp and then sync it to protools? this might cause it's own headaches though
